Hi guys, a buddy of mine is selling me a Remington 700 BDL 7mm rem. mag, does anyone have any input on these rifles? Are they any good or should I stay away from them? I would appreciate any info.

Fly right at it!! Those are great shooting rifles. Never had a 700 Rem in 7mm Mag that did not shoot well, and I've owned a few. The oldest I owned was built in 1964, the newest was built in 2000. The one I kept is the 700 Classic, that has shot an 8" group at 1000 yards a couple of times. Regards, Eagleye

I heard from someone that these rifles are not accurate and dont group well cause they dont have a free floating barrel, has anyone heard that ass well?

I have two of these, a 200th Anniversary in .30-'06 with a maple stock, and a .300 Win Mag DM BDL in walnut. Both have iron sights and I love them. They are nice to shoot and deadly accurate.

They shoot! .... Floating the bbl in a BDL takes about 15min.

^^ - I'd listen to him. I've got a great 700 in .308 that I just picked up. I'm really happy with it, especially the trigger. It's been a great rifle.

The BDL stock is much copied,so the design is good compromise. I found mine to be short. It was not designed for recoil management, rather quicker handling. Not a problem in a 7mm mag,but with the 8mm mag it was a different story. That shiny finish is almost indestructible.Remingtons long have had a rep as good shooters.

I own two, both shoot 3 rounds into less then an inch at 100m, floated both barrels (takes 5mins with a dremel). if you like a classic look, they are excellent rifles.

You mean a gunsmith can fix the barrel to free float no problem?
You can do it youself. All you need to do is to sand out a little bump in the forend and reseal the wood.

I use a piece of sandpaper wrapped around the proper size socket (socket wrench) and sand back and forth.
