Am selling a Remington 700 BDL DM to a buddy and need some opinions on a fair price. He is a good friend and new to hunting. Am not trying to make a bunch of money

Gun is about 10 years old. 7 mm Remington Magnum with a synthetic factory stock. Lightly used and in good condition. Topped with Weaver rings and a Bausch and Lomb 3-9x40 scope. Paid about $1000 for the whole package - any input???

Thanks

Depending on the condition and quality of the stock $500-$700 is probably fair, but when it comes to helping out a friend let your conscience and your personal financial situation be your guide. If you were trading the piece in at a gunstore, other than on consignment, they would discount the scope all together and you would be lucky to walk away with $350. If you can live with 35% of the purchase price that's cool, but don't beat yourself up if you can't.

Check out the EE and see what Remington 700s in the same condition as yours are selling for. Keep in mind your scope is a much better scope than the Bushnell Elites and should hold its value very well.

You may even want to keep the scope and sell him just the rifle.

A new BDL is well over $800 for the rifle alone. Add a $400.00+ scope, rings and bases and he would be looking at well over $1200 plus tax.

Don't sell yourself short. Ask a fair market price. Or sell it to him at a discount but he signs an agreement that if he ever decides to sell it you have first option at the original sale price. I've seen it happen too many times I sell a friend an item at a discounted price and he turns around and sells it at fair market value and makes money on the deal.

FWIW, when you are looking int he EE, compare asking prices to replacement cost. I think you will see a lot of used rifles being offered for prices that match or even exceed replacement cost. And they seem to sell!!! I'm not saying you should sell for more than it is worth new. Just don't sell yourself short! You paid a fair price, your friend should be expected to do the same, pay a fair price for a used rifle.

You can never seem to re-coup money out of a scope. If he is a GOOD buddy you would make his day by selling it to him for about $550.00 and tell him he is getting it at this price due to your friendship. Show him this thread and he will get it. The setup is worth the $600.00 to $650.00 that the others on here have posted.
