I own Ruger,Browning & winchester when it comes to north american rifles, And must say I have seen some awful remington's mostly in the fit finnish & there semi auto rifles & shotguns, however I really love the look and feel of the BDL it looks old school and love the iron sites. can anyone give any insight on these I like the idea of one in 280 or 270,

I have owned several Rem.700 BDL,they are great rifles, and I have never had a problem with any of them, and they all shot great. If I were you I would look for one with a serial # starting with an A or B or C that means that they would have been made in the 70's 80's and 90's.I have heard that the newer ones are not as good as the older one's but I am not sure..

I guess I look at it this way. Remington didnot sell over 5 1/2 million of them over the years from being junk.
Mine are 70's and 80's vintage, have never given me any problems, shoot excellent patterns and will die with me. I have not heard any complaints on the new ones but don't follow them either like I do their shotguns etc.

Rem 700 BDL

My very first ever centerfire rifle was a used/exc condition late 70's/early 80's vintage Rem 700 BDL in .308 Win.

I bought a 700 BDL chambered for 270 win in 2005. Other than the hard plastic but plate (replaced) I have had nothing but good luck with it. Have had little trouble finding very accurate loads (consistent around 1 moa), the trigger is fairly easy to adjust to a decent weight and the bolt travel is tight and smooth.

It has always shot the factory 130 rem core-lokt loads well but I switched to 130 grain Nosler BTs over 60 grains of H4831. This load chronies 3150 FPS and gives me just under 1" loads @ 100 consistently.

I have a 3200 3-9X40 Bushnell scope mounted in QR Leupold rings to have access to the iron sights if I want.

Comparing it to rifles of similar cost of the last few years I think it's consistently one of if not the top contender.

I think you could do a lot worse than giving a BDL a chance.

I found a used 700 BDL in 6mm Rem a few years ago. I wasn't a huge fan of the stock design so I swapped it with a CDL stock, mainly just didn't like the plastic butt plate on the original. My gun is made in 1979, the action is absolutely wonderful. Tight and smooth.
