The CDL Rem 700 I recently purchased had the factory barrel pressure point epoxied but the chamber and lug were floating.
It shot fine but after the barrel heated a bit I noticed the shots were starting to vertically string. After the barrel cooled it would return to zero, so I knew there was a small bedding issue. There was epoxy or some type of resin on top of the front pressure point which I believe Remington never did.?
I took a piece of wooden dowel with some sandpaper and removed the barrel pressure point and then resealed the wood. The mag well fit pretty snug so I concentrated on the area about an inch in front of the lug in the barrel channel and the lug.
After applying some flooring wax to the barrel I mixed the 2 part epoxy/ hardener and put it ahead of the lug and a spot behind the recoil lug only. After about 20 minutes of waiting and hoping that I didn't glue the rifle together, I took it apart to find it worked perfectly. The barrel channel and recoil lug area had a perfect imprint of the barrel and lug, after wiping off the floor wax it went back together and the fit was exact.I rechecked the barrel channel and it free floated nicely. After a trip to the range to see if I fixed it or f**ked it, I shot a 3 shot group with 2 touching and the other 3/4 inch off. No more shot stringing................
