Hi All

I have a remington 700 in 223 and want to rebarrel it to a 260, as I have a 260 takeoff barrel. I get the rebarreling part and know that the bolt face needs to be opened up. Is it expensive to get done and are there any issues. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Regards

I think you would be much father ahead to simply sell your rifle and buy what you want. It isn't just the bolt face that doesn't work for you, but the rails of the action and the magazine box. It is expensive to alter the bolt face as well.... and often other styles of extractors are used which alter the design of the action considerably - making the action less safe and weaker as far as gas containment is concerned.

Lots of guys are looking for .223's, you shouldn't have a problem selling it..

guntech is right,I'd just sell the 223, as by the time the bolt face is opened up and sako extractor is installed you would have spent about $200 then the feed rails will need work.

223 bolt face

The other alternative is to order another bolt from Pacific Tool in 308 fitted to your receiver. This costs $125 USD plus extra in Canada for blackening, fitting a Remington Extractor and ejector, and silver soldering the handle in place.

This will give you a custom fitted bolt with a factory extractor.

this will cost you at least $250 when all is said and done...then you still have to modify the feed rails and replace the mag box, spring and follower...

make a trip over to Wholesale Sports.............;)

.378" bolt face Remingtons are better left as is......IMHO
