I purchased a spring and titanium firing pin from David Tubb many years ago but not sure if he’s still selling them. He does still participate in ELR shooting and sells bullets, reloading accessories and gun builds!
The 700 is noted as having a short lock time as is... and the factory spring is fairly heavy. A lighter pin is most likely required... but some results from the 70's demonstrated accuracy was not increased in bench shooting. Quicker lock time may help off hand shooting though.
The standard 700 striker spring is 24 pounds. Wolff makes 24, 28 and 32 pound springs.
I have no idea how you would go about measuring lock-time but the difference is easily apparent. So is the effort to lift the bolt handle, but its hard to get something for nothing.
The lock time on short action Remingtons are in the 2.6 milliseconds range and the long action are 3.0-3.2 milliseconds. As DL stated the heavier spring will definitely increase bolt lift.
Thanks for the response, guys. I'll just stick with the current bolt spring for now, hence the consensus is not overwhelming to apply a new spring. Plus, the action is brand-new from the factory.
