Hi Everyone

I just picked up a almost new Remington 700 Custom Mountain rifle in 300 Win Mag. I love the rifle and own numerous Remington guns. However, I have done a lot of reading about the trigger issues and misfires with Rem 700's. I don't want to get into a debate here about the issue but I would like your advice about getting a new trigger professionally installed. What are my options or what would you recommend. I would like a safe trigger that a competent gunsmith (not me) would install and set for me at about 3 pounds. I would not adjust the trigger later. PM me if you want. Thanks in advance.

Any back yard G-smith, reputable or otherwise can install a Jewl or Timny trigger. It is very simple and only involves pushing out and then pushing back in 2 pins.

Setting trigger pull on an aftermarket trigger is as simple as turning a screw.

It really is something you can do yourself........

My $.02
Cheers!

Shilen seems to have the reputation as the toughest aftermarket M700 trigger. They also have a narrow shoe which can feel a bit different at first.

As far as installation, it's easy. But often it's not quite as simple as turning screws. Even the good ones can often stand to be honed by a good smith to be truly crisp.

Here's a hint. If you can take the trigger off and reinstall it yourself, the pathway of least resistance may well be talking to Guntech on here and sending your trigger, or a new aftermarket, trigger to him and have him tune it. He doesn't really need the entire rifle. 45Stomp on here will also do you proud.

For a hunting rifle and 3 pounds I'd look at Shilen. I prefer Jewel but they really start shineing at super low weights, and it doesn't take that much dirt to stop one.
Depending on whether you have the old or new style trigger, the safety parts may not fit to your new trigger. In that case, you may want to go with a trigger that comes with its own safety.

To the OP. Knowing your location can be of great assistance in directing you towards someone close to your home location.

You can buy a Timney trigger preset to 3-3.5lbs from Mystic Percision and install it your self.punch out the two pins remove the factory trigger replace with the Timney and reset the pins.do a safety test, a bolt slam test and a bump test to ensure every thing is working properly.
