I have recently aquired a nice stainless 300 Win Mag on a 700 DM, and would like to know if there is a way to convert it to an ADL (or BDL). I don't have an ADL or BDL handy for comparison, but I understand that the underside of the action is machined differently to accept the Remington magazine and doesn't work with the regular box.
Any answers as I would like to order a McMillan here, or look for an old Ti stock.

I don't think that conversion works with a factory DM action... but you could install a Kwik Klip conversion which inlets much the same as the BDL bottom metal and works on any 700 long action. It just requires a little inletting of a BDL stock. McMillan may be able to inlet for the Kwik Klip alteration.

Thanks for the response Denis, I may not have explained myself well, or I am misunderstanding you.
I want to use ADL or BDL bottom metal on a 700 DM action. Is there a difference between an ADL/BDL action and a DM action? Or can I get a regular box and bottom metal and make it work.

Yes there is a differance between actions.

The ADl and BDL actions are designed to have the feed lips integeral to the bottom of the action.

DM actions do not have this extra bit of metal.

You can add a DM conversion to the ADL or BDL actons without removing the extra material (usually) but you cannot go the other way without adding some metal to the bottom of the action in a DM.

I recently built a 338-06 off of a DM action, my original intention was to do what you describe but I was unable to do to the design of the action. I went with a DM for this reason.

I have in the past done a DM conversion to a SA & LA ADL and to a LA BDL, all worked fine without removing material from the action.

I have a couple of Kwick-Klip conversions up in the EE right now if you would like to utilize a factory BDL stock with your action.

Cheers!

I was relatively sure that it couldn`t be done, but had to get a reality check.
Oh well. I do actually like the DM function on this rifle, but think it is kinda ugly.
So I can use the Kwik Clip conversion with this then, and they will hold and feed a 300 Win Mag?

You could use a modified DM mag box in an ADL stock. All you need is the feed lips from the DM. If you took the bottom off the dm and just used the sides with feed lips, and an ADL spring and follower it would work.

Should also work in a BDL, as the spring and follower attach to the floorplate. Again, use the mag box without the bottom, and a BDL spring and follower.

Another option is a Wyatts Centrefeed mag box, which has its own feed lips and follower, and uses the bdl floorplate and spring.
