Remington 700 in 300 Weatherby mag

My dads been using Weatherby brand 165grn tsx the past 8 years with great success. You may pay a few extra bucks for it (~$65 locally) and get a few funny looks when people ask "whatcha got?" but damn it works... has a sweet smell too after firing, especially in the 300

for deer. are you trying to quarter and gut it with one shot? lots of power.

There is a common misconception that a bigger (faster) cartridge will somehow damage more meat than a smaller (slower) cartridge. But these quick comparisions always leave out the most important factor,..impact velocity.

Using a ballistics program we find that a 180 launched out of a 30-06 at 2700 is going about 2300 at 200 yards,...the same bullet out of the 300 Wtby will be going about 2300 at 400 yards....or the bullet out of the '06 will be going about 2500 at 100 yards,..out of the Wtby it'll be going about 2500 at 300 yards.

So, all other things being equal the Wtby will have the same impact velocity 200 yards further out that the '06...and the '06 is considered a good deer cartridge. Nothing excessive about using a 300 Wtby on deer IMHO,....

I guess it depends where you are looking...:D
Around here its ~$60/box for the cheap ones, premiums are ~$80/box...

Frontier has them for $45, and I heard someone say Cabelas does about the same. There's likely others.

I suspect that if someone wanted to shoot up a few cases of that stuff he'd find eager buyers for his once fired brass.

don't care about the price, just looking for the best factory load for this rifle

Best in which way? Which will shoot best in your rifle is entirely luck of the draw, and what works best is a matter of the result you want.

There isn't a bad bullet in the Weatherby factory lineup. I'd look at the Spire-point and ballistic-tip if you want to crush 'em, the TSX if you want to follow it around for awhile, the Accubond and Ballistic-tip for long-range shooting in the wind, and the Partition, Accubond and TSX for a bigger game load that just happens to work on deer too. 180s all the way.

Does the Remington have the same freebore as the Weatherby? Is there a risk that Weatherby ammo is only for freebored rifles? Or are they built for all 300 Weath?

I always read that you must be careful with factory Weatherby ammo in a non(or short)-freebored rifle.

All factory chambered rifles for Weatherby cartridges are free-bored.

Hmm I recall reading somewhere that .257 wby chambered 700's didn't have the same freebore and as a result firing weatherby factory ammo was potentially risky.

That being said hornady, and i believe remington make some factory ammo in addition to the weatherby factory ammo.

Wby factory is premium ammunition, pretty much all combinations they provide are pretty top end.

Weatherby cartridges have been Saami spec since 1994, no American manufacturer is going to go up against that. Besides, I had a M700 in .257 Weatherby.;)

Pretty sure Weatherby has a 180gr soft point load that rings in at $39.99 as a result of all the sticker shock from new Vanguard owners looking to buy ammo for their new .300's. It's the Interlock load.

Then buy one box of each load that is appropriate for the game you will hunt and start testing. When you find the one your rifle shoots best, buy five boxes of the same lot number. You will then be ready for the rest of your life. - dan

you know what, just forget i asked anything, because no one can answer the question away

That's because your question as asked is unanswerable without useing generalities.

Here's another one. Its a .300 weatherby and you're shooting deer. There isn't a factory load that won't work. Chances are there isn't a factory load that won't make the weatherby accuracy warranty.
