remington 700 in .338 lapua?

Yes they may have cancelled it, but a 700 can be made to take the .338 Lapua, and could reintroduced again in the future.

The single biggest problem with the Lapua case is the case head size. I'll bet if Remington makes a .338 Lapua they figured a way to have an alternative extractor style that is "safe".... I don't think they consider the commonly done partial conversion to Sako style to be safe or acceptable.

I am certainly thinking the term "safe" is being blown out of proportion! Pun intended.

They are making them in .338 Lapua Mag and we have some on order, they are in my remington law enforcement price guide for this year, the specs are as follows.
Remington 700 MLR Police
26" Barrel
Parkerized finish
Heavy Barrel (no sights)
Twist: 1-10
H-S precision LTR Stock

I contacted our distributor for remington law products and they said they should be in my hands soon.We will hope to see and sorry no pics at the moment, but I am sure no different than the other Police models.

I could not believe Remington was using their 700 action for the .338 Lapua so I sent an inquiry to Remington. Pasted below:

I have read the following on a gun forum about a new model Remington 700:

Can you please tell me what extractor system this rifle has? Is the bolt diameter larger than a regular 700? is the action larger than the regular 700?

Dear Mr. Sorensen. I'm not aware of the .338 being chambered in the Model 700. If so, the action would be a Model 700 long action magnum with a bolt faced matched to the caliber. It would be a Model 700 style extractor system. Thanks!

Murdoc, can you scan the page in your Remington law enforcement price guide and post it here ? I am curious.

Dennis did you contact Remington Law Enforcement or just Remington?

"Just Reminmgton" as it is the main company that the other divisions run under I think....?

The main Remington website where you can ask specific questions..... and I have contacted them again and I am waiting for another reply.

It is the law enforcement division you have to call to. The catologue is my price list no pictures or explanations other than above abbreviations that I posted with a big NEW sign on the side of the list.

I have gone to the law enforcement division online and looked at all of the rifles..... no mention at all of a .338 Lapua.... Remington searches do not show that caliber either.

I am going to remain skeptical untill I actually see more than I have....

I just received another reply from Remington. Following is our communication.

David, thanks for the previous quick reply.

You state you are not aware of any 700's being chambered for the .338 Lapua.
Could you please check that fact with others at Remington as well....
escpecially with what might be in the Law Enforecment Price Guide. Also in
the Remington law enforcement price guide, does Remington offer any .338
calibers?

Thank you, Dennis

Dear Mr Sorensen. I don't even see it offered in the LE section of products. It may be a special run but I do not see the .338 Lapua listed anywhere as a cataloged item. Thanks!

supposedly the 798 and 799 are the old "mauser and "mini-mauser" actions respectively that were imported under the Charles Daly name(in the USA anyway, maybe Canada too? i know my FiL has one or two that were hot rodded into varmint rifles)
but with more "north american" style stocks...

I just received my 2006 Remington Law enforcement catalog by mail, and YES there is a 700P in .338 Lapua magnum. It is called the "700 Police MLR".

- 9 pounds
- 26" barrel
- Twist: 1:10"
- Mag. cap. 3 rounds
- Stock number: 5645

There is no picture. I think their website is not up to date.

Anyway, it official an done. Good for those "light artilery" amateur!!!

It is interesting, I contacted Remington and they have not been able to tell me anything about it...... I have not found anyone there that can confirm what the listings state....

An another sign that a lot of rep. from the firearms industries don't kown their stuff... I had a conversation last week with the stoeger rep. about the extrema2 and the guy was completely lost when an other guy asked him the difference between the extrema 2 and the ulrika...and i'm sure the would a lot of other exemple....

Just try to get a hand on their new 2006 LE Catalog... Too bad i don't have a scanner...

Honestly, you're surprised to hear this? Do you think that any of these people are actual shooting enthusiasts? No different than phoning Camboadian Tire and asking questions from one of their reps as far as I'm concerned. ;)

And there was much rejoicing...

In a factory 26 inch barrel..... one would be further ahead rebarreling a magnum 700 to .340 Weatherby - better accuracy and much more efficient..... I never thought I would use efficient and Weatherby in the same sentence......:D

26 inch barrel is kind of a waste in my opinion just buy a 338 ultra
the 26 inches wont let the cartrige work and achieve its potential its just to short
