I have a Rem 700 in 7mmMag that I can date to 1979 using the barrel band code but I want to confirm the model of it. I am pretty sure that it is a Classic but don't know the years that the Classic was made in 7mm Mag. Anyone help me out ?

Your 7mm Mag is indeed a "Classic". The 700 Classic was issued for several years in several chamberings, including: 30-06 and 7mm Mag, unlike the single year issues of other "Classics". I believe there was about a 5-year run of these popular chamberings that ran parallel to the specific chamberings year by year starting in 1981 or so. Regards, Eagleye.

Yes. I also have one of those early offerings. Most of them had clean barrels, but I have seen the 7mm Mag with holes drilled for sights with plugs in them. Eagleye.

What kind of value does this specific caliber in this model hold ? It has been used for hunting and as such is not pristine by any means but it has not been abused. I am the second owner of the gun, for the past ten years, and it has not been fired more than 200 times since I owned it and the previous owner had only fired two boxes out of it. Any ideas ? Not looking to get rid of it by any means, shot a nice moose this past year (Picture in the avatar actually) with it and hope to do so again for a few to come, just interested.

Value basically will correlate with any decent Remington 700 in the same relative used condition. Given the price of the new SPS line, a well used and hunted 700 of that vinatage and the prices Curt posted aren't out of line.
