As the title says this rifle is currently outfitted with a Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10 X by 42 scope in Talley rings. It is used going to be used primarily for varmint hunting possibly out to as far as 500-600 yards maximum. Do you feel this scope is adequate for the intended purpose or should I be looking at something with higher magnification?

The two downsides I see is the magnification range and thick reticles that Bushnell have.
But definitely on the right track.
My dedicated varmint rig is a 25-06 with a 6.5-20.
Just my opinion but I prefer as high of magnification as I can when shooting smaller critters.

id be replacing it, as Kelly said the reticles in the bushnell are thick. in my opinion WAY to thick for any thing besides shooting steel and hunting fairly large game.
