IMHO That is a huge improvement.
 
My understanding of the 700 Long Range is that it's the long action version of the 700 SPS Varmint with a much better stock. Beautiful rifle out of the box, the paint job adds a nice touch!

Even with a bedding block this rifle will likely benefit from being bedded. Sometimes the bedding block contacts the action in front of the screws instead of on the sides. This introduces some flex when you torque the screws. Running a dial indicator test on the barrel will tell for sure.

If you're mechanically inclined get a Magpul DBM on there. The stock would need some inletting but it's a feasible DIY job. Even better, get the gunsmith to do it.

My last 700 Varmint in .308 was a 1/2 MOA rifle. I think you'll be happy with yours.
 
Ok so I went and took the rifle to the range!

And found a problem. I couldn't extract a round after firing without the use of a hammer.

So I took the gun back to the shop and looked inside the chamber. It didn't look very pretty. So we have a little "tool" we built that pretty much holds steel wool onto the end of a power drilled. Fired it up and did a couple passes and the chamber looks a lot better.

Really weird for a gun that was supposed to be "brand new".

Have to wait for another day off to try it again.
 
And that, right there, is why I don't think I'll be getting a Remington. The things I've heard post Freedom Group don't inspire a lot of faith. I hope you get your in working order.
 
I caved and bought one in 300 RUM. Topped it with a burris veracity 5-25x50 scope and hammered some factory Hornady 220gr ELD-X's outta it. Tightest 3 shot group I got was 1.5" @100 Yards. That was also my 14-16th shots for the day, and my shoulder needed a break. Going to go back today and try again, this time with some proper shooting bags not so sore of a shoulder.
 
I was getting 1 moa groups at 720 yards with mine with Hornady 162 grain HPBT Match bullets. The load was just a mid range 7828SSC fire forming load too. I have high hopes for this rifle (although someone else may get to enjoy it soon). I plan on doing some ladder tests Sunday night.

I jumped on board today.


It will be a few weeks before I get it rigged up.

At least my Leopold 6.5x20-50 will have a new friend too hang onto. Ha

Hornady 178 EDX for this 30/06 will be a good place to start for this Remmy LR
