Remington 700 LTR - any oppinion ?

700 Ltr

I've owned a couple, I like the size and configuration of them. Shoots about the same as any other Heavy Barrel Rem 700 you might run across, well under 1 MOA with the right ammo. Trigger not the best out of the box but can be adjusted. Big thing for me is it fairly light and handy compared to some full blown, bull barrel tactical rifles that weigh in at 15 pounds or more. Provides good accuracy out to 600 meters or better. If you want to shoot farther than that, you are probably better off with something bigger and heavier. If you actually want to carry it around, the the LTR is a good choice.

I picked one up about 6 months ago in .308 its good at the range and i cannot wait to take it hunting, easy to clean as long as you get a lug recess cleaning kit. I prefer the slim stock to the standard 700P.
 
Exactly the same accuracy as the standard 700P, just slightly less velocity from the shorter barrel. We rework and tweak a number of them every year for various LE depts, they are handy in many situations due to the shorter barrel. For 1000 yard work I would still opt for the 26" version

The only tweaking I did on mine was to bed the action and adjust the trigger to 3 Lb. I consistently get 1/2" to 3/4" 5 shot groups at 100 Yds with it using reloads. I shoot prone with a bipod and rear bag. I plan to start shooting it at longer ranges this spring.

I get that out of my 700P with stock trigger and not bedded and store bought 20$/box ammo. Maybe you should bring it to another gunsmith
 
Typically we rework the trigger to get it crisp breaking in the 3lb area, and glass bed the action and free float the barrel. Other mods are done to the clients want, but these 2 thing are almost always extremely helpful in improving accuracy. Typically they will then shoot well under 1/2 moa, with decent ammo.

Canuck loosen up your action screws 1.5 turns and see how much you action can move around in the stock, bedding will eliminate this, and will improve the accuracy of your rifle. as it is now all the rearward thrust of recoil is being held by the screws alone, having full recoil lug contact is only achieved by bedding.
 
Saw an exellent condition fluted 700P LTR 4 sale at P&D Enterprises-Edmonton..Quite a nice package for a short accuracy rifle...Think they're asking $825.00 if you're interested in one.

Haven't seen too many New Remington LE's on any dealers shelves lately so I'll assume they are scarce at this time of year.
 
On the short distance shooting, there have been a few article were the author is hitting 6" steel plates out to 700 yards. Bought one for my dad from ATR with said modifications including a Badger bolt handle, it is a very good rifle.
 
H-S Precision. I believe a lighter version than the regulay p model stock something like or exactly the same one on the VLS
