Way back when I purchased an LTR when it first came out. It was in .308 Win and came with a hinged floorplate. I really enjoyed that rifle and she was super accurate for factory (.25 MOA all day with every ammunition and it was a "one hole" rifle :sniper:) Seriously, she would put up some really decent groups (.75MOA-1MOA) with the occasional groups that would break .5 MOA. I sold that rifle to a friend but really missed that rifle. I recently came across an ad for a rare version of the 700 LTR which was the model I had originally looked for back in 2004 (maybe it was 2003?). It is the factory 700 LTR with Detachable Magazine. They are rarer then hen's teeth and though the factory DM is criticized for being unreliable, I have had a few factory 700 DM's and never had an issue with reliability. I have only ever seen 1 other 700 Police with factory DM it was a 700PSS DM (24" pipe I believe) that another friend of mine had but refused to sell to me because it of it's excellent reliability and accuracy. The nearest I came to an LTR DM was an LTR DM stock which I purchased and built my second last rifle on. Before people start recommending other better DM systems, I just wanted to say I have owned the HS Precision DM, still own 2x VBull DMs, and have handled/used the Badger DM. I just wanted to post this as it was an interesting find and it only took me 5-6 years to find this particular rifle. Here is a pic:

I have not fired her yet but I imagine she should be a pretty decent shooter. I probably overpaid for her as well but I don't care as she was something something of a holy grail for me.

Congrats on the purchase. It's always nice to see things come full circle. If your original rifle was that accurate, how could you possibly sell it?

I've got a .223 LTR and a .243 Win custom built with an LTR stock and 21" barrel. The stocks are a perfect match for me and I think very highly of them. So much so, that I purchased an additional stock for a future project that will likely be based on a .300 Whisper.

All my rifles LTR's are the standard internal box design. I personally don't understand the craze of having detachale box mags for bolt rifles. I'm not against them, I just don't see the logic behind it for paper punching or hunting use.

If you need that many rounds that you need to change mags, you don't need a bolt - you need a semi-auto.

I sold my original LTR back in the day because a buddy of mine who was getting into the sport really liked it and wanted it. I had actually upgraded it at the time to an HS Precision DM system. Looking back I don't really know why I sold that particular rifle as it did shoot very well and I remember one particular target (5 shots into .25" at 100m) that was really nice. Like everything else in life you don't miss something until you don't have it. I followed the that LTR with a custom build which I still have but somewhere in the process I moved from a 20" pipe to a 24" pipe, it was in an LTR stock with DM system which later got swapped out to a McMillan A5 and now is no longer a light tactical rifle. Like I said I don't know why I sold it but at the time it seemed like a good idea.

As for the DM requirement, if you are a hunter it is a huge plus (at least for me). I don't need tons of shots hence why I am very content with flush mags. I actually find the Vbull Mag system a bit of a turn off because I don't like extended mags (10 shots for me is a bit much) - that is why I was searching for a factory DM LTR. 4 spare shots is nice but frequently I load it to 3 spare shots. I like DM's while I am hunting because I move from stand to stand and it is nice to have all of my ammunition stay together in one pocket nicely stowed in a mag. A hinge plate is a nice mess and I have lost rounds throughout the truck which I really detest as you have to crawl around the bottom of the truck looking for loose rounds. Not too fun when there is a pile of mud/crud/blood on the floor. Mags aren't for everyone but I really like having them. Now that I have this baby, I am downsizing and getting rid of my LR .308 and my hunting .308.

Viper: The .223 LTR never came with a DM system, if you want one the only option that I am aware of right now is the HS Precision system which is nice but does add almost a pound to the rifle.

I bought the Rem 700P DM when they first came out for sale.At the time it was only offered with a 26" barrel.

The Rem DM system does not have a good reputation for feeding reliably.I experienced feed problems with the 3rd and/or 4th rounds. The First 2 rounds and the last round always fed. This was not with one mag, but several mags. This is the reason Remington Dropped the DM version.......

I ended up buying an AICS chassis system.Never had a feed issue with the AICS mag system and it's mags........

IIRC, you can use 5 round AI/AICS mags in the V-Bull conversion.........

Actually, there is another option that you aren't aware of. There's a company in the USA that has a Rem 700 DM system that uses Ruger Mini-14 mags. Looks kinda stupid with a 20-30 rd. mag sticking out from underneath but the standard 5 rd. mags should work fine. Sorry, can't remember the name right off hand but a few guys on Sniper's Hide have them. I'm sure you can find more info there.

Skullboy: I don't know if you got a factory DM or an aftermarket modded DM but I do know that the BDL and BDL DM have different receivers. Many folks who try to "drop in" a DM system (i.e. floorplate) into a BDL receiver are usually in for a small surprise - I tried it once and found that the rifle would only feed rounds 1/2 with 3 and 4 jamming upwards. With straight factory DM's (I have had 3 now) they all have worked perfectly.
