I understand Remington has been working on building a .338 Lapua on the 700 action. I have seen pictures of the bolt face and the extractor used. I understand this will not be in production until 2008.

I wish Remington would forget about making a .338 Lapua on an altered action by butchering the great design of the 700 action . It is so stupid to alter "the three rings of steel" concept and not use the 700 Remington style extractor.

I would really like to see Remington build a new 700 Magnum action, scaled up larger in size using the original design extractor system but large enough for the .338 Lapua. Larger diameter action and bolt and slightly longer too with a thicker recoil lug the same diameter as the action.

Butchering your old 700 and altering the extractor is a terrible idea. In that form it will NEVER SUCCESSFULLY compete with the other Lapua actions out there.

Please pass these comments up the line to someone involved with the developement, preferably not to the person who thought altering the extractor was a good idea.

Dennis,

Thank you for contacting Remington Country.

Remington originally planned to chamber the .338 Lapua in the 700 Police MLR. At this time no rifles have been produced for sale in this caliber. Your comments have been forwarded to our firearms design team. Thank you for your interest in Remington products.

The un nameable guy in Calgary has had 40 of them on order ( bought and paid for) for over a year, I have money on 1 of them, he tells me that the Remington people he met with in Edmonton 2 days ago, will be filling his order as soon as they become available, which should make them the 1st order in Canada.

Futher update. Spoke to Rick today about this as Remington still has no firm plan, I called Remington after seeing Guntechs post and basically got the same drill, so upgraded to the HS Precision Heavy Tactical in 338 Lapua
At least this way I may live long enough to actually see it.
No fault of Ricks, he suggested this as 1 possible course of action, as well as an instant refund of deposit if I chose that way to go.
It really is sad when a big maker lets things out of the bag before they have their poop in a pile, it reflects badly on the little guy that is trying to be of service as well as the big makers.
