I never really gave the notion that CRF's are better suited for dangerous game animals as compared to push feed actions much thought.

Its just something I took for granted from campfire banter and gun writer statements.

I got to thinking about a conversation I had with a worker at a job site this last week.

He was adamant about the disadvantages of the Push Feed type action. Firmly stating that if the need arouse and a person had to chamber a round inverted with a push feed, the unfortunate soul would be shyt out of luck.

Being bored today, I took one of my Remington 700's (30-06), loaded 3 rounds into the mag. laid upside down and cycled the action. Three times I repeated this inverted trial.

The 700 fed and extracted 100% reliably inverted....myth busted? :)

Haha the coffee break talk.. Yeah it sounds interesting and I never really thought about it either... But now that I am...

I wonder if a very slow (essentially being as quiet as possible) round chambering would cause a push feed system malfunction, while inverted...

I think you would be ok with a the control feed no matter the speed or force used...

*off to the safe*

I did the same experiment years ago with a Win M-70 push feed. It worked flawlessly. Personally I have never swallowed all the hype about CRF being so much better and the be all to end all in bolt action design.

I have never had to be upside down or on my back while I was chambering a round in any of my pushfeeds. Unless you are martin Riggs or Neo and jacked in, I doubt even dangerous game hunters would be able to cycle the action and get off a shot while they were upside down.

Some (not all) of those amazing CRF rifles have enough play in the bolt to easily skip over the top of the next cartridge without picking it up. I have never had that problem with any of my pushfeeds. I know it could happen, but I have never experienced it.

Haven't quite figured this all out yet, and my pension has started. One thing for sure is I must have a slam ram feed, because if I am putting another round in the chamber the bolt gets slammed or rammed in every direction needed to accomplish the task. So far it works quite good, and I don't have any complaints.
