Remington 700 or Savage

I want to get a cheap .308 or 30-06, but that will shoot good (or at least decent) as far as possible ie 300-500 yrds.

Also i want a light trigger pull. I know that savage has accu trigger which can lighten it below 3 pounds (i think) ideally i want 2.5-2.

SO what should i do buy a savage with accu trigger and or get the remington 700 and screw with the trigger/new trigger.

Any suggestions as per which make is better considering what i want. Also with the make what models and how much and where to buy. Please note i would like to keep price between 400-700 for the rifle.

PS. I know that people will say there are better rifles but for the most part please focus on these two brands
 
I happen to like Remingtons and the trigger can usually be adjusted to 3lb or less with little fuss. There is certainly nothing wrong with Savage rifles, it comes down to personal preference.
 
I don't like how far back the bolt handle is on the Savage 110 rifles. Not that it doesn't work well, the Savage 110 series of rifles are the number one selling hunting rifle in North America. It’s just a cosmetic thing to me. Just so you know, the Accu-Trigger is only a fancy name for its trigger. It also has the nickname Accu-Glock trigger because its idea is the same. The trigger cannot be pulled unless the "Accu-Trigger" is pulled first. The Savage rifles were famous for having a nice light trigger, but many hunters’ experienced accidental discharges well out hunting from bumping a tree or hitting a rock. So, savage decided to put this new piece of metal in to stop the trigger from accidently being pulled and put a fancy name on it. I fired an older savage in .270win that don't have the Accu-Glock and there was no creep as all, just a super light 2 - 3lbs trigger that broke whenever the right pressure was applied. My brother owns a new Savage 111fx short action .270WSM with an Accu-Glock trigger. It’s like the little piece of metal is supposed to be the creep because once that thing is pushed all the way in, the actual trigger has no creep at all. Super accurate gun though surprises the hell out of me when it goes off. Shoots groups tighter than a snake’s ass at 100meters. Realistically, it does MOA easily.

Never seen or fired a Remington 700 other than ones on the shelf at the gun shop so I can't give you any info on that other than I want a Remington 700 Classic series chambered in .300win or.300RUM as a moose gun.
 
From what I know you can do more to a Remington 700. Flip side of the coin it seems people rarely have to do anything to their Savages to be pleased.

So my .02 are if you want a platform to build on/tinker with go Remington. If you just wanna pick it up and go then I'd vote Savage.
 
Detachable magazine is a must in my neck of the woods. Accu-trigger has caused issues for some in while hunting. On the other hand, if you patronize "big green" your #### will likely fall off...
