i am looking to buy one of these near edmonton, here is what i found:
milarm: $1050-1100
P&D: $999
wholesale sports: $920
phoenix: $1700 (he said thats what the edmonton city police paid)
wild west shooting center: will call back with price

i would love to spend my money at P&D but i will go to wholesale sports if they dont budge on thier price.

what is the story with the HS precision stock, because it has an aluminum block inside, does this mean bedding is not required?

Makes me wonder - I was in there a few weeks ago and a guy asked for his money back because they sold a gun that he had on layaway.

A good question with the stock. Have one myself and was told no but I'm no expert.

What is referred to as a "skim" coating of bedding on top of the aluminum should be done.

Actions all vary slightly as do the aluminum blocks and stocks.

What sort of time frame did MIlarm give you on getting one in? Last I checked they had none in and said it'd be a helluva long time before they could get one...

I just bought the exact rifle on Friday from Alberta Tactical Rifle. Some of the work they did for me was have the rifle is bedded & floated, they tuned the trigger, they added a plus 20 MOA Farrlel rail ,PRW rings, harris bipod, 4.5x14x40 Leupold MK4 scope with mildot reticle and scope caps and more, and gave me a great "bullet recipe" for making my own accurate ammo. Great guys! I'm new to the precision game so they made me feel quite comfortable with the whole thing.

I have one in 308 as well as 223. Both will shoot sub MOA with most handloads. The 223 has a 1-9" twist and will keep 69gr Sierras sub 1/2 MOA witha very healthy charge of Varget.
One odd thing to watch for is the throat length on the 700 PS in 308win. 155gr Palmas seated out as far as I can and still keep the bullet in the case will not touch the rifling as well as 168gr Sierras. Still haven't figured out why Remington did the deep throat on the 308 only. Rifle would still shoot under 3/4 Moa with selected loads.
Anyone have any ideas as to why Remington did this?
As far as bedding goes try em as they come from the factory and if you can't get the accuracy that you think it should have try bedding the action as well as the first couple of inches of the barrel.
Just my 2 cents worth !

I think I read here on CGN that Wholesale can get their Remingtons for a dealer price lower than the dealer price given to other dealers. As such, it is often the case that Wholesale can sell a Remington below the dealer price of some other guys and still make money (not sure if this is still true though).

Make sure Wholesale actually has it in stock. I was talking to one of the old timers in there and he said things aren't being restocked as quickly as before. Also P&D will probably give you a whole lot of after sale support like proper scope mounting etc.

Would you mind telling me how much that was. If you dont want to advertise I understand. I am wanting a long range bolt once I am finished my AR.

Please don't take this the wrong way and Forgive my ignorance but what is so special about the 700P? I was considering picking up a rem700 before next fall, is the 700P worth the extra $$$? are they only available in short action?

Remington deepthroated your chamber do to liability. That is why you will never get a match chamber in a factory rifle. They don't know if you are going to shoot 110 grain bullet or stuff a 220 grain bullet into it. They want to cover their a$$.

As far as bedding goes, action and recoil lug (front and bottom releived) only. Free float the whole barrel in front of the recoil lug.

!

I popular .308 LR bullet is a Sierra 190. I think Remington throated their .308's to accomodate this bullet. I have a Remington .308 varmint weight barrel and it is throated long as well.

If you pick up a 700P (or as i did the 700 LTR) before you shoot it tear it down, stock , bolt and all and give it a good clean, mine had bits of aluminum between the bedding blocks and the action, and it was real dirty.

Once i had it clean, i ran it through the barrel brake in from the Remington web site, its an awesome rifle for the price, but the fit and finish is not very good, nothing a little elbow grease cant sort out.

For what it is worth we just took in a Rem 700 LTR...condition is excellent (almost appears unfired)...$825.00. This in only the second used LTR we have seen since we started selling these guns.

NEROMAXX, looks like you just beat me to it!!
fortunately ATR is getting another 700P that i have put money down on.

GORKY, as far as pricing, it is $935 and the guys at ATR have an excellent reputation for good customer service which beats places like milarm and wholesale sports, hands down IMHO. they explained everything i wanted to know and encouraged me to ask more questions, no smoke and mirrors with those guys.

ERT, milarm did not give me a timeframe

SGT AXE, was your rem 700 new or used?

I don't have much experience on this topic, but here's my 2 cents:
A normal Remington 700 is way overpriced (here at least, $700 for a new one). A Remington 700P is the building block for a lot of precision shooters. The Remington 700 action is one of the most common for custom/precision rifles, and a 700P comes with an HS Precision stock (a lot of people bash it but it works very well for me and it got a great review from the guys at SOTIC [Special Operations Target Inderdiction Course] who use the M24's extensively), and a heavy, free floated barrel. Is it worth the extra cash? You bet!

couldn't you just go out and buy any rem 700 (ie, SPS) and upgrade it yourself as funds allow and end up with the same quality rifle as the 700P? If so, what upgrade's would you need to do?
