Remington 700 re barrel/re chamber?

So a while back I purchased an old Remington Model 700 BDL 222 in what appeared to be very nice condition. Unfortunately for me the bore is like a sewer pipe.

I have a take off 700 24” heavy barrel in 22-250 that I purchased from Dennis Sorrensen some time back. I had it on my 22-250 for a short while but then had Dennis take it off.

I am wondering the 22-250 barrel could be cut back and rechambered to either 222 or even 221 Fireball. I have seen a new take off barrel in 204 that I could buy but I wouldn’t mind the two I have listed instead.

If such a thing is possible any idea who might take this on.

If it is chambered in .222 it would not need to be cut back, it should screw on and be close with very little chamber work to finish as a .222. If you want the printing to index it would require a little more work. You won't know until you try it. If you go the .221 route probably best if you shorten it enough to get into a fresh throat for the .221.

Sorry Dennis I should have mentioned the heavy barrel is in 22-250. My bad. I’ll fix that.

It could probably be set back, rethreaded, rechambered. Is it in great shape? About as much work as fitting a brand new barrel.

Yes I bored scoped it and it’s all good.

It’s more about how many months you wait than whether it can be done. Unless you have a way to get to the front of the line.

The simple option would be to acquire a .473" face S/A bolt w/ same length lugs as your .378" face bolt.
(3 lug length options on ANY Rem 2 lug bolt)

If, the receiver has not been trued/molested-
Spin the 22-250 barrel on the receiver.
Insert .473" face bolt assy.

Shoot

90% probability that the rolled lettering will not clock properly.

That is an option Dan but I already have a 700 in 22-250. Looking at something smaller/different to play with without spending $1000 or so on the project.

I already have a number of others calibers ranging from a few 17s and from 22 Hornet on up. I don’t have a 221 fireball.

In 700 fireball the extractor is clocked differently in the bolt face. I’d do some research before going the conversion route. There’s a reason factory fireball guns don’t last long when up for sale
