Hey guys,

So i'm completely new to the Remington 700 platform and have some questions.

Please bare with me, as I said i'm new.

I picked up a .308 Remington SPS Tactical AAC-SD awhile back with the intention of turning it into a budget precision rifle.

I'm now at the point where i'd like to pick up the scope base.

I'm slightly confused. Is my rifle short action or long action? Google gave me some mixed answers.

If I want to shoot anywhere from 100 yards to 1,000 yards is a 20 MOA mount sufficient?

What do you guys use for your rigs?

Much appreciated.

yes short action.. 20moa depending on what scope you run will get you to 1000+, some scopes have very limeted internal adjustments and may limet you befor that.

near manufacturing, ATRS, EGW, all make rails that will fit your gun. lots more out there too! many of out sponsers will have what you need.

i personally run higher end stuff, like near manufacturing, but that wont exactly fall into "budget" precission... i have had an EGW 30MOA rail on my 700 in .308 for well over 3500 fired rounds, never given me any problems so id put them in the best bang for buck catagory

Hey ultimate_monkey,

I appreciate you taking the time to reply, thank you!

Would this be the EGW you are mentioning?

yup that would be the one.... the name eludes me but there is a few board sponsor tat bring them in. EQG will ship direct but IIRC shipping is like 25$ so unless your ordering multiple its a bit pricey for what actually gets shipped

Give the guys at Prophet River a holler for EGW rails. Pretty decent price for them there compared to Brownells. Also, when you mount the rails, mount the front part first on the action and see if there is a 1/64"-1/32" gap between the rear part of the action and scope rail. If so, you might want to consider bedding the rail.

Check out my work in progress on the same model rifle:

I have a Timney trigger on order. Next step is a stock upgrade. :)

Hey Trinimon, thanks for the link!

Nice rifle btw :)

I have two EGW 20 MOA bases. I bought my first one from EGW direct but the second after I learned Jerry at Mystic Precision sometimes stocks them. I say shoot Jerry a PM.

I've got the EGW 20MOA on my 700 SA. No bedding for me, it fit spectacularly well.

You must've gotten lucky. From what I've been reading, most folks 700's rear action is a hair lower than the front. Something about the front part is milled/CNC and the rear part is finished by hand. How true that is, couldn't tell ya. My 700's rear action was indeed lower than the front. Would have preferred it if I didn't have to bed mine too! :(

I have a Near 25 moa and a NF 20 moa base on 700's and none required bedding. Was it an EGW base you are referring to? Maybe it's the base and not the action if it was an EGW base.

Well I checked the rail before installation with my engineer's square which is supposed to be 0.0001" accurate. It is possible that they milled the base uneven but if you Google uneven front/rear receiver or bedding scope base on the 700 and you'll notice that it seems pretty common unless all base manufacturers are not milling them properly.
