Well i took out the Remington 700 SPS in .270 today to sight in. 54 grains of H4350 nets me a good honest 1/2" group at 100 yards pushing the Nosler 130 grain balistic tips.

..................The only thing is, shooting this bolt action doesn't do it for me.:( These things are friggen boring. I am pretty sure i'll be packin the Winchester 94 in .32 special and end up putting the SPS on the block. Myself, the older guns have more history, and just plain interest me more.

I find the "evolution of a gunnut" to be very interesting. It can start and end with a basic hunting / shooting firearm. If it continues, the "nut" in question will often look for the latest and greatest whiz bang to get the most out of cartridge xyz until something else comes along. If gunnuttery reaches full maturity, tastes become more refined and off the shelf firearms become, well, boring. Arms with historical or sentimenal significance take over and we simply enjoy shooting. Its almost a circle; we start shooting to enjoy all there is about the sport, we become too serious, and finally relax and rediscover the enjoyment.

I have a friend who was originally from China. He has been in Canada for about 15 years now and we recently went shooting for the first time. We shot skeet & sporting clays, 22 rifles, and a lever action 44 mag. He wanted to shoot a "cowboy gun" he said, as he worked the aciton of an imaginary rifle. His smile went ear to ear when shooting that lever gun and he now wants to get his PAL and ... that's right, a lever gun. It is when we rediscover that feeling, or better yet never loose it, that the joy of shooting reaches its full potential. :)

time to top up the RRSP and shoot the old ones I guess.....I have found a sure-fire cure-all to excessive gun buying....I was a charter member until I came up with this little plan.....with the advent of internet banking it's plain easy(even a kid can do it) to go online and transfer all your extra $$ onto oustanding debts or into RRSP accounts.....thereby leaving you broke until next payday.....and I don't believe in excessive use of credit.....so that's not an option....works for me......ahhhh...but if you really need to move that 270...let me know eh?:D

It is kind of a toss up for me, I own quite a few of both old and new. I love the oldies because of thier history and style, but the new ones can deffinately bring a smile to my face in the right situation.

I guess sometimes we have to keep some new ones around with us so they gain some history of thier own ;)

I'm kinda in between here as I like the old, classic calibers in new rifles.

257Roberts, 35 Whelen, 300H&H, 375H&H, 270Win, etc.

.

I never find an accurate rifle boring. On the other hand if a rifle isn't accurate,I don't care how much character it has,I will not hunt with it.

An accurate older lever action holds my attention and appreciation more than an accurate stainless bolt action with a plastic stock. I just find them cold, boring and unappreciable.

.................I liken it to my appreciation of real natural tits on a woman rather than the fakies!!!:D

...................I have 6 Winny 94's, 2 Savage 99's and a Ruger 77 that span
3 - 15 years in my possesion. The rest are traders. The Remington 700 stainless was to be the new go to gun for this year as i have read alot of hoopla about it and i was hoping i would get into this stainless plastic craze. Need to carry it this year i guess and get a relationship with it. Shoots like a hot damn with the very first handload i tried though.
