Im looking to get one of these but i understand the stock is garbage. Whats a good replacement one for a good price?? This rifle will be for fun only so not looking to blow the bank on it. Also what scopes work well with this set up?? It will be in 308 also not looking to pay to much for optics but want a tactical\long range set up. Thanks!!

Choate stock or Bell&clarkson with a 10x bushnell elite tactical and Burris Xtr rings and bases ... Make sure you glass bed the stock and lap the rings if needed total cost should come in around 1500$ reddy to go !

If fun is the only concern then the stock is not garbage. Skim bed it and stiffen the forend and its just fine. As to optics, your question is very vague. What works is a riflescope. Whether that's a cheap 3-9 or an S&B is up to the individual. Buy the best you can afford and look up reviews on it before buying anything. The Bushnell 10X40 is the best bang for the buck for something with good glass, tracking and feel but the lack of parralax adjustment and good magnification limit it past 100 yds. The next step up would be around $1000 for me. Nothing in between offers much value with the things you need. Again, the question is vague. Post your budget and expectations.

Bell and Carlson, or HS Precision both do stocks for reasonable prices.. as for optics in that range.. i would recommend a Bushnell 10x ... or a mid range Vortex, or a Falcon ... now a lot of people rail on the falcon scopes.. but they have good features for the price.. namely mil/mil turrets/Ret. and First Focal Plane ..

if you're on a budget then they are a really good feature rich option .

and get the Illuminated version

"Good" is quite subjective. To some, .5 moa at 400 yds is "good" while to others hitting a 12" gong with reasonable success is good. The SPS tacs can usually do .75-1 moa with hand loads at 100 yds. 1 moa at 400 would be very good IMO. They're good shooters for the money. I'm not a fan of the sub $1K scopes other than Sightron but I'm also OCD about reliability. Vortex scopes perform pretty good but have tracking issues and a fair amount of failures. Now their customer service is top notch so you won't get screwed but there are better values. Read Tomochan's sticky on optics for some good info. Falcon provide good value for the dollar but remember that when you're not spending a lot you're not getting a lot with optics. Its not that they're bad but if you want something that will last and not need to be replaced as you progress then there are better options. Is your budget 5-6 hundred for a stock AND optics? If so its one or the other really. You could score a used stock off the EE and slap on a Bushnell 10X for that but you won't be able to print super tight groups at 400 like you could with a better scope.

Look at a 700P LTR instead... basicaly the stock upgrade is done for you...

The LTR comes with a 'slimmed down' stock.

At a considerable price difference. You could buy a new HS Precision stock and still be ahead as far as money is concerned. I own a LTR and it's a great rifle. However, there are more cost effective alternatives.

AICS is a thumbhole stock and the others are conventional sporter stocks adapted for use with heavy barrels. Totally different feel between them as the AICS has cheek & LOP adjustments that are easily made. The AICS is substantially heavier if that's a concern.

What exactly do you want to use this rifle for? That in itself will largely dictate what stock is best suited to your shooting needs.
