The reason F-TR allows .223 and .308 is because they are ballistically equal rounds. I don't think either has an advantage over the other. Since target markers are (or supposed to be) instructed on the 30cal rule the bullet diameter does not come into play.

As far as Rem vs Savage.....you take your chances with either brand. You'll either get a shooter or you won't, there are no guarantees.
