Hi guys, not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'm wondering where could one find a .308 700 SPS Tactical in Canada. Is there any "premium dealer" up here?

I'm looking for one for next deer season, but I'll likely build it up along the way...
I don't care that it says tactical on it, but I like Hogue stock (from my experience on one of my 870), and I prefer short/heavy barrel over the classic 700 barrel.
I got a PM from someone that had some a while back but he said they sold fast and isn't sure if he'll ever have any more of them.

Thanks

Not so sure about that VTR triangle thing... about it's stock either, the Hogue stock of the tac. might not be the best ever but I think it's better than the VTR's.

Give Ellwood Epps a call. I know they had one, but I don't know what caliber. They also had the 700 police and the 700 XCR tactical but it was .223.

No arguements on the stock, the hogue is better than the sps varmint even if it has soft inserts,as to the triangle barrel if we never tried anything new we would still be using clubs and rocks.I hope to be trying one in .223 in the next couple of weeks.

I agree, try epps. I was handeling one about 3 weeks ago in .308 and it was pretty kool. Simmons in Hamilton has one aswell. May have been .223 though, his price was higher aswell. Read a few things about it and it will shoot decent at 100 to 300 yds but in the heat the forend starts to sag a little and is a little sketchy on being free floating. I like the rubberized grip as you do, but not sure about the strength of the stock. If nothing else it's a 700 action to start with, throw the stock in the corner and put someth'n a little better on.

Check out the article on the SPS Tactical at snipercentral.com. They liked the rifle but didn't have a lot of good things to say about the stock. They suggested the Hogue stock with the full aluminum bedding block rather than the pillar blocks would have made a great improvement.

If I were to buy a new Remington with the goal of upgrading it, I'd look at the SPS Varmint. Less money and you are going to replace the stock anyway.

There are some real deals on remington 700 police in 6.8 rem spc rite now. Someone jumped the gun and ordered 500 of them for the rcmp and later found out it was not in the budget until 2010 .They can be had for under $800 .The h/s presision stock and 700 action is worth more than that, you can use the factory barrel for a prybar.

Where?

My budget isn't what I wish it was, and I really wanted a 700 with a 20" HB in a round able to take out big game, thats a bill the SPS Tac .308 fits better than most. So I placed an order at Frontier the day before yesterday... at 659$ with free shipping it's a good deal.
A LTR would have been better and the new XCR short Tac even better than that, but everything being what it is I'm happy with the deal. Now I have to look for mount/rings and optics....

Let us know how it shoots.

I'm thinking of buying one just for a short barrel for deer hunting and the action. Use the stock as a tire block for my next oil change and get someth'n a little better.

It shoots like most new remingtons about 1" to 1 1/2" at 100 yards with factory ammo. Epps has lots in stock.
