Remington 700 sps varmint

Yep.... they are on the short list.... most of my coyote spots are limited to a max of 300 yards and I am far more likely to have a yote bust out over my shoulder than appear 300 yards away.... ao I am looking at something 4-12.... keeping open mind on that though...

Short list includes Nikon, Leupold, Vortex... the usuals... no bushnell or simmons etc....

Don't discount Sightrons, nice glass for the price. I use a 6-24 for metallic sihouette with absolutely no qualms about quality or tracking/repeatability.

Take a look at the coyote special if you get a chance. If shots are under 300 I think that reticle would work fine. Side focus is real nice on that unit.

WSS has some leupolds on sale right now and might be worth a look for some deals!

Thanks for the suggestion... coyote special on the short list... I will check 'em out at LeBaron's / Sail and see their price vs. WSS ..... don't want to buy a scope without looking through it first.... a 4-16 magnification would be great also.... :)

Well.... as usual I pulled the handbrake on the SPS when something caught my eye.... I guess the Leupy bases for the 700 will be goingback up on the EE....

I came across a rifle I have been looking for for a long time.... Rem only made them for 2 years and they were actually made in europe before the buyout.... Mini mauser action and great handling rifle that comes in under 7 pounds.... Remington 799..... picked 'er up in .223....

Well you could still buy a 700 and use those bases yourself... :)

That's good logic.... I have a set of rings and bases I paid 50 bucks for... I need an 800 dollar rifle and an 800 dollar scope to make them work properly.... I like where you are going with this.... LOL....

Actually, I need a new upland shotgun so no new rifles on the near horizon after the 799 arrives....

Pretty excited... always kicked myself for not buying one.... and to find one BNIB after they stopped making them in '08 is pretty sweet......

I started this thread on stiffening an SPS stock.

Worked on my SPS in .243 Winchester

When I had my .260 built the stock used was the SPS Tactical. There is lots of room around the barrel for free floating purposes.

Thanks man... I didn't end up buying the varmint but I wouldn't mind doing that to my sps dm .30-06.... the end of the stock is very flimsy.....

You're as bad as me. I have a Nightforce rail for 700 short action and am now looking for a rifle to put it on..... :D
Almost as evil is having spare scopes laying around......

I thought I was a nut when I purchased 300 rounds of ammo at a gun show for a gun that I didn't own, but was sure I someday would. I was correct, too!:D Scopes? Who DOESN'T have a bunch of spare scopes lying around?

SuperBrad, congrats on the 799. I was looking at one locally to use as a walking coyote rig, but I snoozed...and losed. Or is that snossed and lost?
