Remington 700 sps?

I can't argue with you Hunter but take a walk through your home and check out all the made in China, Taiwan and Japanese stuff you have.

We would be at a standstill without those products. An unfortunate fact of life. Christ, our National railway is owned by Americans now.

I looked into it and they both come in a 24 in Barrel, the Tikka is a little out of my price range, but its either the 700 or the weatherby!?

Just a correction to the barrel length, all Vanguards are 24", Tikkas are 22 7/16" for the standard calibers and 24 3/8" for the Magnums.

All three of my Vanguard shot sub-moa and they were the standard variety. Though if your read the specs , the sub-moa comes with a much better stock, but its not necessary.

I personally dislike the matte finish on the SPS models I owned, it looks like flat black paint and is on the bolt also. Between the Remington and Vanguard, I would recommend the Vanguard.

What you need to do, is go and handle them both at a gunshop and pick the one that feels the best to you and check out the fit and finish.

...............I agree. The blueing on the SPS isn't the best. Still a good workin hunting rig though.
 
Get the 700 sps.......Decent Rifle for the bucks and there are aftermarket upgrades available for it up the Whazzoo if you get bored with it down the road:cool:
Which of course never happens to anyone on here......:rolleyes:
 
I am not sure what caliber you are looking for, but I know where there is a Tikka T3 on sale now for 589.00 in 270 Win, if that interests you, send me a private msg and I will let you know where its at. It puts it in the same price range as the others.

The tikka also has a accuracy gaurantee and they are much nicer rifles, triggers are good out of the box and the bolt cycles better than any factory rifle i have handled
 
My vote is for the Remington 700 SPS. I've yet to encounter a factory 700 that isn't capable of good-very good accuracy straight out of the box. Until the Savage "Accutrigger" came along, the factory 700 trigger was the best in the business and very easy to adjust. There are also more parts & accessories made for the 700 than any other bolt action rifle on the market. As for the Tikkas...older ones were great, but the new Tikka's use too much plastic for me to buy one.
 
I am looking for a 30-06 Cal, and am starting to lean towards a weatherby, on wholesale is 539, Russell is 529 but their prices I guess have not been updated in 2 years, SIR is 589, In town I can get the SPS for 550, had anybody heard of any bad things of the weatherby?

Seems with Remington you have a hundred guys who will swear by it, and a hudred who will swear at it!

which one has probably a nicer Bolt? I am not really a lefty or a righty, so i will have to adapt and do my best...

Here's my personal experience, though limited, with CF bolt rifles.

My Rem 700 SPS trigger out of the box is very nice. My shooting primarily consist of competing in ISSF and Bullseye pistol, which requires superb triggers to achieve the best scores. My 700 SPS has no slack (firm immediately), I would guess 3 to 4 lbs pull, and breaks very crisp (no creep at all).

I have heard two theories on what to do with the barrel. Float it, or bed it. I tried slipping a $5 bill down between the barrel and stock. Even with my friend prying the two appart, I couldn't get the bill started. Could the 700 SPS accuracy come from the bedding theory?

I have got decent groups from my 700 SPS out of the box. No bigger than 3" and as small as 1" @ 100 yds. These are 3 or 5 shots measuring outside to outside diameter and with factory ammo (yeah, yeah... I know. I've got to get around to reloading).

I've tried a Tikka T3 and I have to say the bolt action is smoother. Could a gunsmith smooth out the 700 SPS?

A fellow shooter who hunts has a Tikka with a synthetic stock that cracked. It's a real PITA to replace. Been months and he's still waiting.
