I just bought a Remmy 700SPS in 270 win and was wondering should it be free floating and if its not can I do this on the synthetic stock, and how could I go about doin this on the gun, I haven't fired it yet so I don't know how it shoots.

I have one and it's shooting fine. The barrel is supported at the end of the stock by two plastic blocks. if you grind these away you should have your stock glass beded. Shoot your rifle first to see if you need to do anything to it.

ALways shoot your new rifle before doing any work on the bedding or barrel contact point, UNLESS you can plainly see some off-center contact to the bottom of the barrel somewhere. I always take a look at the contact point when I pull them out of the stock to adjust the trigger, but my last two 700 "Classics" shot just great out of box, and both have the pressure point up front still intact. Regards, Eagleye.

I have an SPS in .22-250 and it shoots fine, although I did do some trigger work on it. Like a few of the other guys say, try shooting it first, you'll probably find that it shoots fine just the way it is. I found that my rifle shoots certain bullets quite a bit better than others, so try a few different load combos before you do any bedding work.

Thanks for info, what do you's clean your gun with to get the factory gunk out, (Rem Oil, Hoppes, etc...)before you shoot it for the first time. I bought a box of Winchester 140 Accubonds to shoot out of it since I reload them anyways.

Gun Oil. That's it. Rem oil or Hoppes are about the same. I prefert the Rem for cleaning and Hoppes for storing but thats just me.
