I've just recently go into target shooting and hand loading. I bought a remington 700 SS 5R as my starter target rifle. I read some great reviews on it before making my purchase. I'm still refining my powderload. Right now, I'm shooting between 43.1 gr to 43.9 gr in .1 increments. This rifle keeps getting better and better (and perhaps I'm shooting a little better too). I managed a 5 shot .375" group at a 100yards on Monday (note I measure groups from center to center). The shot to the left, was almost as good, but I screwed up the last one.

I might have to buy another .223 target rifle as this is turning out to be lots of fun. Once I have my powder load, I'm going to play with the seating depth and start shooting out to 300 yards. Too much fun. And thank to remington for making a solid factory rifle.

Not the best picture , but here's one of mine shooting in the lowermainland regional match from the 600 mark at Volks last summer , its been modded , Jewel trigger / McPhee match barrel optimised for the .175 SMK and action blueprinted by McPhee , i added a rail so i could get a remple ski pod on it as well , its has a Nightforce Br scope with an npdd target reticul , its a great match rifle , It just needs a better pilot behind it

Here are mine. Took friend shooting last week, first time he shot a rifle, he shot a .89" group at 200m (so .45 MOA) - Dennis Sorenson tuned trigger and recrowned.

Are a definite gateway gun - start with factory 5R then start with bedding, trigger, stocks - maybe barrels...

Wife has one, friend has two, all consistently sub 1MOA and seem to be limited primarily by the finger on the trigger.

Fantastic shooting range! Whereabouts is the location? Pretty nice rifle too BTW ;)

Since we are showing off our 5R's. Here is mine. It groups nicely and has a few mods as well, although I've yet to shoot a 5 rd 0.375" group. Nicely done and do share your reloading recipes.

Great post....but what will really put a smile on your face is when you shoot it to 1000 yards :D i was running Norma brass, 43 grains of 748 and 175 SMKs through mine...they just made it and were keyholing, still managed to get 3 shots in a 14-16inch group :O. Haven`t had much time to shoot it lately since i got my AR :p

That is a beautiful range! Hell once I get mine I might have to make the trip over there just to shoot it at a range like that :p The local range here is only 300 yards but ive got a few nice spots out in my hunting areas I could setup for 600+

Will just have to wait and see :)

Ahh the 5R milspec. My favourite bolt action "factory gun" that's not a categorized rifle with Remington. Also proof positive that all factory guns don't shoot the same.

Mine is stock, except the trigger was lowered to 3 lbs by a gunsmith. Shoots really nice. My best targets were when I was up North. .4 moa 5 round groups at 100 yards were the norm with factory 168 federal gold ammo.

Shhhhhhh! You're going to stir all the pro-Stevens/Savage crowd. We want them to continue thinking that their guns are the best thing going, so we don't drive the prices of Remingtons up. :D

Nice gun, nice shooting!!

It is a nice range for sure. The bad news is you need to be a BCRA or DCRA member to shoot on DND ranges, and only under the auspices of an organized shoot.

Well the Stevens/Savage crowd have a point. My rifle shot those groups on it's own. I just pointed it down range and took the safety off. :p
