Looking for a new rifle and opinions. New hunter last year with a Browning AB3 7mm rem mag. Experienced handgun range shooter and some long gun shooting. Trading in the Browning for something new, I just didn't like the feel of the AB3, some of the features seamed to cheap although it was a nice shooting rifle. Also looking to change to a 30-06.
Looking for something that has stood the test of time and although there are lots of posts and complaints of Remington quality in the past several years most of them seem to be GM vs Dodge vs Ford type criticisms and I believe it must be the best selling hunting rifle of all time for a reason.
I love the look of the Remington 700 CDL SF. I'm wondering if you have any reasons that I SHOULDN'T buy this stainless fluted barrel and/or wood stock? I will use it both for hunting and the range. Have a Leupold VX2 3-9x40 to put on it already. I kind of like the old school look of the wood stock and am not afraid of scratching/wearing it, I think that gives it character.
Is there perhaps a different/better 700 model I should get? Cost isn't a huge issue, to a point.
Open to opinions of other Rem 700 suggestions also..
Winchester 70? Browning X-bolt? Also nice wood stock versions? Reasons to buy synthetic instead?
Thanks
