Remington 700 Tactical Target

Had one in my hands about 2 months ago at Le Baron's here in GTA.

I can honestly say that it was just as ugly in person as it was on the www.

I gather if somebody wanted an off the shelf target rig, this would be another option. For the money they want for it, you can get an LTR or PSS for a lot less and use the extra funds to spruce it up if you wanted.

I can't wrap my head around the triangular barrel - just doesn't do anything for me. For the money you'd be spending, get a cheaper 700 whatever and practice until you're a proficient shooter - then upgrade your cheaper rifle to suit your requirements.

At least Remington makes an effort to try and give choices to the consumer - although off the wall sometimes:D!

I wouldn't be in a rush to buy one of these myself, but it did feel really solid when I was playing with it. Finish was nice, but that barrel - ugly!

Cheers, Carl

Another factory gun that is greater than the sum of all its parts price-wise.

That stocks sells for $385 US and the rest of the componenets are definitely NOT worth $1500

How much would it cost to buy an SPS varminter in 308 and throw on a BC stock?

Sure you don't get the triangle barrel but that is a good thing in my books.

So where does the other $1000+ go??????

Remmy is a bastard gun all of the sudden. If you want a Remington. Buy a used SPS. Pull the barrel, stock, trigger and screw what you want to it. May cost more once you pay the smith for his work, but you will have 2x the rifle of anything that comes out of the remmy shop. Yes, mad.

Only one of four Remingtons I have bought in the last 5 years that shoots I had to do exactly that to it. 3k by the time the dust settled. But it is a great gun all of the sudden.

Having owned a variety of GREAT shooting Rems over the years, I have nothing against the platform (just more work and costs then I want to put up with these days). However, there is a growing trend for factories to add a bit of bling and ratchet up the price.

Part that bugs me more, is the stock and accessories manf are 'so far behind', they are limiting their offering in the aftermarket. Try finding a new center feed det mag stock for the Savage!

I guess if there is no supply, you can charge whatever you want.... Or so the marketers think.

If you want a great shooting, fully functional tactical rifle, consider the LE Savages with HS, McM, Choate or accustock. Decent shooting, great stocks, excellent mag system for 1/2 this Rem lists for.

The new BAS Savage is again heading into blingville. Interesting stock, yes. Worth $1500, don't think so.

I've had this rifle in my hands quite a bit and a friend of mine has been looking at it as well. I agree with some of the others about the barrel. Not my thing. The stock is very nice. When you put it down on a bench and really get down on it, it is very comfortable. Bolt handle is a nice touch as well.

If someone could tell me where I can find that particular stock here in Canada, I would be very grateful.

I saw a rem700 target tactical at WSS. The stock was green with black wisps mottled over it. Barrel was 26" heavy with 3 wide flutings, not the triangular variety. Price is steep and there is no 1 MOA accuracy guarantee out of the box such as the guarantee that comes with the tikka rifles. Tikka T3 tactical is better value IMHO.

More fun to build your own Rem Tac boomstick! Save your money! I like the SPS suggestion, use a donor action and then support your local gunsmith by installing a fine match barrel; you will be further ahead.

Maybe we should let the mirror kommandos over in the Black rifle forum know about this green triangular spectacle.

You see that is exactly what I did 2 years ago. I'm looking at 2019$ (taxes & shipping included) into this little project so far...Rem700 SPS-V, B&C stock, Badger bolt knob, mag Xtender, EGW picatinny rail, Harris Bi-pod, and recently added a Falcon Menace 5.5-25X56mm scope.

... Better to build it yourself I'd say.

Funny thing is, If i added up the cost of my sps-v and the aftermarket stock we're only looking at 1155.74$
