Rem 700s are great, they are the standard to which all others have been judged for years. However there are others that are just as good, or better for similar money. I won't buy another Rem 700 for a target rifle, maybe a custom action that has a rem 700 foot print, but with the way my Tikka rifles shoot, it is hard to justify going the custom route any more.
So if you were to ask me, Tikka , all the way. Quick and inexpensive swap out of the recoil lug, Devcon and pillar bed (same for a rem 700 so no difference there) and you are away to the races. My most recent Tikka is Sporter in 260 rem, bone stock, straight out of the box my load development produced two loads that were in the 0.3s, not too bad for a factory rifle! And my Tikka tactical in 308 in a Boyd's pro varmint stock (no bedding--yet!) with Factory Hornady American Gunner ammo produced several groups this past weekend in the 0.5s.
