Nice to see all the interest in the SPS Tactical. I always thought that it was one of the best values in their line-up...but heard constant moaning about how the stock was flimsy, the finish was bad, etc. Now that it's gone...people are seeming to realize what a nice-shooting, practical rifle it was.
For me, an SPS Tactical, available in .223, .308, maybe .243, and of course 6.5Creed for the kool kids...with the old Hogue stock, which was and is one of the most comfortable stocks available and very inexpensive...adapted to accept AICS-style mags...with a 14- or 16-inch barrel (please don't lecture me about why I don't want that)...would tick off all the boxes. For an inexpensive plinker that would also be a terrific and easy-to-carry hunter, this would be awesome.
If a more upscale, i.e. pricier rifle is the goal, they could go with the identical-profile Hogue stock with the full-length aluminum bedding block, still a great bargain compared to competing stocks.
