Remington 700 Trigger Recall

Reliable has posters showing the difference between the recalled trigger assembly and the non-recalled one.The short answer is the smooth triggers are recalled and the ones with the two grooves along the trigger are not. Do a Google search for Remington trigger recall. There is a web page with all the info.

I am not knocking Timney as they make a fine trigger.. but any competent gunsmith who is familiar with triggers can make "the worst any model 700 trigger" into a crisp, safe, light pull with no perceptible over travel for 1/3 of what it costs to replace the trigger. Many of you know this but many get caught up in the latest internet trend.

I've heard that about the old 700 trigger, but is it still true of the xmark pro? Also it's my understanding that the goop in the trigger group wasn't worth trying to get out.

The xmark pro can easily be tuned. Just three screws to muck about with but if you have no idea what you're doing leave it up to a gun smith. If you feel competent enough to do it yourself there's plenty of write ups on how to do it and make sure you safety test repeatedly to make sure you don't have any negligent discharges. Having a good trigger pull gauge is a must.
 
I didn't bother with the recall and put a Timney in my precision 700 and then I picked up another 700 in 243 cal . I read this thread and decided to send it in and I am impressed with how fast my rifle was returned . 8 days from when I sent it to the time it was returned .

I had a great turn around time. I was worried about sending the rifle out. Gravel send me a box quickly. I Packed it VERY well for the tip by adding extra packing material.

Came back packed well BUT the top of the barrel had two aprox. 3/4" long scratches on the top. 5" apart.

Now being all paranoid about sending the rifle out I had a very good look over it before it left and I KNOW they were not there previously.

So apparently during shipping to Gravel the rifle managed to get what looked to me like rust particles on the barrel and scratched. Some particles were even imbedded into the top of the barrel.

So, not sure how I could have possibly packed it better for shipping but lesson learned I guess.

Just got mine back today. Fast service(9 days) trigger feels very nice,BUUUUUT! CANADA POST! looks like they dropped the box and damaged it significantly. Rifle looks OK but the bolt has some damage.

I have pics from when I sent it out and will take pics of the damage and will email it in to Gravel for their opinion on the extent of damage. Looks cosmetic to me but I'm not a Gunsmith. And Canada Post wonders why they are losing business.
 
Upon closer inspection damage on my bolt is on the handle near the bolt body (burr and gouged 2 spots)and a small indentation on the left bolt lug. Looks like my poor bolt fell right out of the damaged box and hit something pretty good.

Big THANK YOU to Gravel as they have offered to have me ship the bolt back for inspection and any repair at their cost. I will be shipping it back in a Canada Post proof box LOL.
 
I got mine, more than a fair price from a chap who I suspect was afraid of the recall, and the rifle had to got to Quebec. The last time I looked, that was still part of Canada. The service was 110%, and I gained a good shipping box when it was over. The rifle for me was a project so time wait did not matter. Some guys should look at their rifles history and see how much Eastern Canada has been involved. I know some thought that Remington should have just sent them a new trigger of choice for the customer and the local gunsmith to fix, but when with any kind of a recall did
Ford/Cheve/ etc. send there mistakes across the street. Today there is always the legal liability of trying to duck out. Remington is just one of several I have owned .... thanks
 
I never bothered sending mine in and put a Trigger Tech in it instead. It is as good if not better than the Timney I have in my Ruger and 1/2 the price. It has 0 creep, ultra crisp break, factory set and 2.5 pounds but externally adjustable from 1.5 to 4 pounds in 1 oz increments.That being said I wonder if I can just send in the Rem trigger assembly without the rifle and have the recall done.

From the time Gravel received my recall claim to the pre-paid shipping box at my door was 7 day. I packaged it up on the 29th of October and it was already in Winnipeg on the 31st. I thought that was pretty quick. By all accounts, i guess I'll have it back within a couple weeks. i am in Alberta.
 
Do you all refering to the 2014 trigger recall?

I went to Quebec city (Gravel) in 2014 summer and bring my R700 and they changed the trigger on the spot. Didnt had issue since then and used it in preparation for deer season this year.

The reason am asking if it is 2014 recall is because i was "not at home" for a while and i didnt tracked any gun related recall.

Fixed, and shipped back today (15/11/5). they also replaced an exctractor. That's pretty impressive service.
