Remington 700 trigger?

I have a number of Remington 700's that I use for gophers and punching paper. The triggers on them leave a little to be desired. I do not want to spend $300 to upgrade the triggers (I think I have 5 or 6).

I see that Brownell's sell a Jard trigger upgrade kit for $50 or so. It replaces only the innards. Seems like a reasonable way to go without breaking the bank.

Wondering if anyone has tried them? And did they work out well for you? Might be a reasonable option. Thought? Thanks for any input.

Assuming the 700's trigger isn't damaged or filled with rust, they can usually be pretty adjusted easily, although I had one I could do nothing with, and replaced it with a Jewel. I wouldn't mess around with new triggers or upgrade kits though until I was sure your triggers couldn't be tweaked.

I have done that and some are good others not so good. For instance the one on my VLS 204 is 40 oz and I can not get it any lighter than that. Maybe I am expecting too much. I have some that are OK, but still not great.

I'd recommend taking it to a gunsmith to polish the mechanism parts and set your travel and trigger pull to your preferred settings. I would not attempt any of that on your own as Rem triggers are notoriously finicky and any screw up can render your trigger mech in a very dangerous condition. A good trigger job by a qualified gunsmith can make a huge difference with the Rem 700 trigger. I had a trigger job done complete for about $75. Better than an after market cost wise with very good results.

I agree. Send to a good smith. I wrecked a 700 sear trying to polish it myself with a 5000 grit stone. Won't try that again....

My favourite type of 700 fire control is the good 'ol factory "Walker texas trigger"...you know,the one where the rifle discharges when you flick the safety off. Keeps me on my toes and I like to live dangerously.
