I'm looking to set up a precision/varmint rifle in .223 for the range and critters soon. I've been looking a lot at the CZ 527, because it's gorgeous looking and I've heard very good things about their accuracy.
However, I could get a Remington 700 VLS for the same price. I'm weighing my options between the two of them.
Remington benefits:
- Readily available stocks, barrels, parts and upgrades due to the proliferation of the model.
- Easy to find mounts and rings.
CZ benefits:
- Detachable box mag.
- Very accurate out of the box in my understanding.
- I dig the barrel contour b/c it has the benefits of a heavy barrel without a substantial weight penalty.
- Set trigger is a cool feature for the range.
Does anyone have experience with both rifles? I can't find a 527 Varmint to handle in person, so I have no idea what the trigger is like. I've also noticed that the different 'trims' of 700's have very different triggers. How do the triggers of each compare? And how does the accuracy compare between the rifles?
For the first few years that I have the rifle, it won't really be upgraded much. Maybe after a few years when I have a good job and the barrel has been shot out, I'll put on a new one, or get the thing blueprinted and lapped. But for now, I'm trying to figure out which one will give me the best trigger and best accuracy for the money.
