The Winchester model 70 (newly resurrected) and Remington 700 are classic designs.

Given your pick, with comparable features, which would you take? I'll make this a poll.

Model 70 every day of the week. They're a bit heavier than them M700, but I prefer a CRF action. they previous trigger was superior, IMO, but from teh accounts I've heard the new one isn't that bad. If they'd just start making a full-sized safari action...

I like the Model 70 better too. The trouble is, my Remingtons outshoot my Winchesters and my custom Remingtons outshoot my custom Winchesters. Hell, most of my stock Remingtons outshoot my custom Winchesters, a fact that causes me no end of annoyance. Life ain't easy for a Winchester fan.:(

More access to aftermarket parts for the Remington 700 than the Winchester 70. Other than parts availability, they are both great rifles. I have experienced better accuracy from stock Remingtons than the Winchesters. Both can be easily customized and turned into great shooters.

Which style of bolt, feed, eject and safety do you prefer?

For the same reasons you stated I prefer the 700. I don't like the idea that Browning/Herstal dropped the Model 70 because of production costs being too high. They re-introduce a new Model 70 with production costs obviously lower. Now for the $64,000.00 question. Where did they cut costs?

I also prefer the 700 for the availability of chamberings, aftermarket parts/accessories and proven track record.

This Model 70 has only been on the market since 2008.

as much as I like 700's and I've owned more 700's than any other design I'd have to say the Model 70 is a better action, all things considered....

I have a 1959 Featherweight and I had a new FN built version at my house on Sunday...they are both very good.....

I own both, like the 70, love the 700! As for control-round feed. In 25 years of hunting, I've never had a single issue with a push-feed Remington 700 causing a single problem or failure to feed/eject under pretty much the nastiest climatic conditions you'll find...Newfoundland/Labrador/North Atlantic Fall/Winter seasons. As another poster mentioned, even the bone-stock, fresh out of the box factory 700s will often out-shoot the 70. I know that my 700s do. The classic pre-64 Model 70, however, sure is "purdy!":)

I voted for the 700. CRF means nothing to me. All mine work great. I like the trigger and all the aftermarket stuff is a big bonus.... PLUS, the 700s are generally less expensive.

What are all the things that you've considered? I like the controlled feed and 3 position safety,(just 'cause I do) but the Remington has better gas handling and is stronger simply because it doesn't have the same claw extractor and the needed cut-out in the receiver ring.
I'm just playing devil's advocate, being a Winchester guy who somehow buried himself in Remingtons.:)

On the bench I would take a Model 700 any day. I have found them to generally be more accurate and the pistol grip is shorter and has more drop which I find puts my hand in a stronger position from the bench and the trigger system has a shorter lock time.

In the field I would take the Model 70 any day. I prefer the 3 position safety, the control round feed mostly because of the great big extractor, the field strippable bolt, the grip is far more comfortable from field shooting postions for me and I find they point better, I have not seen the new triggers but the pure simplicity of the ones on my Classic models is also a winner for me.

Since hunting is more important to me than punching paper I chose the model 70.

+1.... Rem 700

I have one Model 70, a pushfeed XTR model in .30-06. It's a good rifle and I bought it because it has a factory 24" barrel.

But I voted based on what I have most of.... and there are quite a few Remingtons.... ;)
