Remington 700 VSF VS Savage 10FP ?

I am getting one of them.

if I get the savage, buying/changing a better stock would be a little hassle.
And they will be about same price after that.

my biggest concern is accuracy. I heard alot of good things about how accurate the savage is, what about remington?

which one has better craftsmanship/build qualiity?

The Remington is probably a nicer finished rifle and the Savage, if it's a standard synthetic stock, will have a 'cheaper' feel to it. But the Savage will certainly give the Remy a run for it's money in the accuracy department. ;)

[BTW - I have a Rem 700 P and a Savage 10FP LE both in .308 Win...]
 
the VSF is a heavy barrel yes, with flutes. They look pretty good with the tan stock and black matte steel. Not overly heavy though, that stock is well made and definetely not tupperware. Probably a Bell & Carlson or HS Precision.

Id go with the VSF, I like remmy's :p
 
well thats an easy fix, sell the VSF and buy the Savage

how could I prefer a gun that has a huge clunky bolt, crappy little safety that would be fun to use wearing big winter gloves, a barrel nut, big nosed native etched on the bolt body, tupperware stock, etc etc ;)

I have Savage 10FP in Choate stock. It is accurate like hell. The only time it doesn't shoot well is due to my own mistake. It is on the heavy side due to choate stock. Nevertheless, you cannot get an accurate sniper rifle as cheap as Savage 10FP
 
Who here has owned and shot both? I have owned A 10FPMcMillan 308, Remington 308VS , Remington 6mm Rem VS, Remington 22-250 VLS, 12FV 243, 12PV 204 and a few other Remingtons. I sold all the Remingtons except for the ones I sent to Ted to get rebarreled and the 243 and 204 Savages are great. I used to buy remingtons when I knew i would be building a semi custom from them but now I will just buy custom actions as well. With all work I got done to the Remington actions I had $750 into the action. I would put my 12 FV 243 up against any remington any time, winner gets the other guys gun.
 
I've never had much luck with Remingtons. They can be great if you're willing to put money into them, but I'd choose a Savage first.

x2, Remy's are great if you don't mind puttin the $$$..at the end, you could get 2 Savages for the price of one Remington..
 
Remington as of late doesn't make anything with the inherent and off the shelf accuracy that Savage does. If you're into spending some cash to get your gun shooting like a Savage, then Remington's for you. For my money, I want a hunting tool, not a show piece.
