Any comments? The triangular barrel seems pretty odd ball...must dissapate heat well... does it shoot well? i'm thinging about buying one.
 
Triangular barrel along with the built in muzzle brake is just another sales tool. Has a certain cool factor regarding the looks but is of no real benifit. Unless your in a situation that requires a constant rate of fire, cooling will not be an issue.
The barrel is not triangular for the full length so its still convensional nearest the receiver in case you need to bed it. I would think they will shoot as well as the rest of Remington's varmint line.
 
My dad bought one and is very happy with it. He's still trying to find the magical load that it likes but thats half the fun aside from buying new guns. I've put a few rounds through it aswell and I'm quite impressed too. I can see him taking it deer hunting this fall too!
 
Looks like one of a half dozen recent 'unveilings' for the '700'. Remington is becoming more like Harley Davidson turning out the same product over and over again......
 
Two of my friends have them, one in 204 and one in 22-250 both will shoot half inch groups with the right hand load. I myself cannot get used to the barrel, old fashioned I guess, but they are shooters none the less. They are also very well priced.
 
I have one in .223 and I love it. Out of the box with American Eagle ammo i'm shooting 1" groups @ 100 yards and I don't even think I'm a good shot either :)

I've ordered a Choate Varmint stock for it and I'm also going to get the Bushnell 4200 6x-24x-50mm scope and than i'm set....Can't wait!!!
 
thats funny I know and you know and the guys at snipercentral know the triangle barrel reduces surface area over a heavy or fluted barrel but all the shops I have been to, to check them out say "the triangle barrel has more surface area then a heavy barrel" and I just smile and shake my head.

its a gimick! and its working Quinte Outdoor Sports calims to have sold over 20 in various calibers...... just buy a SPS varmint, 700p or 700 SPS Tactical.

could be true... depends on relative sizes... if the cross sectional area is the same, the triangle will have more surface area (than a heavy barrel, flutes complicate the math)... that's why bubbles are round.
 
Mine - in 308- arrived last week, but I am out of town and haven't look at it yet (5 more days!). Handled one at a store in Bellingham (WA), $150 less there of what I paid here in Canada (699+tax). I bought it despite the triangular barrel because (at least for me):

-Better balance than the SPS tactical (don't like it at all)
-Not as heavy as the SPS varmint
-Half the price of the 700XCR Long Range (this is a beauty and the one I really wanted, but I have a Kimber 45 on the way and also a family that I want to keep together)

Need to buy a rifle scope now.
 
Man this is one dead horse of a post! The guys who have one like them for the fact that they shoot well and are easier to pack than a standard varmint rifle. The guys who can't or won't buy one slag them for being different.
 
man.... just get one and to see if you like it or not. I haven't heard anyone who does have one not like it but people who don't have one think its a gimmick gun.
 
Thanks for the info. I checked out snipercentral's review. I'll buy one and add it to the pile. I'm not impressed with the muzzle brake, however. I don't wear hearing protection while hunting...and brakes make things abit louder.
 
I think my point is... the day you see Krieger, Rock, Obermeyer, Border, Bartlein, Shilen, Hart, Lilja, Brux, Broughton, ER Shaw, McPhee, Smith, Gaillard and McLennan adopting the concept of a triangular barrel, I will try one. Until then, I will go with what I know both intuitively and from a metallurgical perspective, that an asymetrical or fluted contour on a buttoned or hammer-forged barrel is a foolish idea for a rifle that is intended for shooting long strings under timed conditions.

Enjoy it! Who cares what anyone else thinks.

the top two are from a clean bore then the very left three shots were next then the group in the middle is a 5 shots are 100 yard once the barrel was a little warm. .5" center to center
 
I have one, I like it, it shoots. It is nice to carry and has good balance for off hand shooting. It is a compensator NOT a muzzle brake. It removes muzzle jump it does not reduce recoil. It also doesn't make a difference in noise.
 
I actually won't buy one due to how the stock fits me I'm 6'3" and find the forend where it flares out to be to far back for me.

I found I was constantly having to change my grip on the forend due to this.

Have no positive or negative thoughts on the actual rifle though just don't like the stock design.
 
I have one in 223. I bought it from a friend who bought it and then hatted the trigger. The trigger had massive creep and wasn't breaking consistantly. The place he bought it wouldn't help him adjust the trigger and had no options for him. I thought that was crazy. He told me he was gonna sell it cheap to dump it and I bought it from him. I adjusted the trigger the best I could. From what I can tell the trigger is defective. I can fully remove the weight screw and the trigger still breaks around 3 pounds. I bought a x-mark pro trigger on the EE and as soon as I get around to putting it in I'll post how it shoots.
 
yea that doesnt sound right. my trigger has no creep whatsoever. mine is set on the heavy side but i cant bring my self to adjust it cause it shoots so good for me as it is.
