What do you guys think of the Remington 700 VTR in .308 i checked it out the other day it felt really comfortable and i liked the short action, cool looking gun. Just wanted some info on these rifles.

I have one. So far I haven't done much in terms of load testing I just threw together a 150 gr load for white tail hunting. It gave me groups around 1" with no issue and I'm sure it will do better. I really like the balance and even though it is a bit on the heavy side it should make a good walking around hunting gun. Rifle season opens next week and I hope to break it in proper.

I have 2 of them, both 308. With Federal 168Gr Sierra Matchking, all holes touching over and over at 100 yards. With 178 Gr Match ammo a friend does for me, usually the same hole. Those are strictly target loads as they must be fed one at a time, too long for the mag. Overall, best precision rifle I have owned. Haven't hunted with it yet, but will do so as soon as I can. Barrel stays cool. They even make them in desert camo now, so perhaps some are being used in the sand box. It is light to me, compared to my other rifles, so that's my take.

Vtr

I own 3 of them.. 223... 22-250 and 308
They are not a match rifle.. They are not a precision rifle.. They are an unusual design and shoot reasonably well for a short barrelled carry rifle.

That said, with match bullets, they cut a pretty decent target, but certainly are a pretty much run of the mill minute of angle (and sub if you dial them in) reasonably priced rifle. I like them enough to keep them, but do not be mislead that they are a match grade or precision piece.. Not..

I bought one in 308 when they first came out I love it easy to carry and not bad accracy for a mass produced rifle but then again when you're dealing with any of the big factorys rem, win, ect you're bound to find a lemon every now and again.
