One of the sponsors has a Remington 700 XCR in .308 for $1450.

1/ The rifle
2/ The price.

It's probably a little more than some spots but this dealer has sponsored a match or two and deserves some business.

There have been a number of threads on R5 (or 5R as on the box) and the XCR. You can find the R5 for $1,000 (a dealer has one on the EE). Personally I opted for the R5 when the XCR was $1150, so if the XCR is now $1450...

i just bought one about 2 weeks ago. great rifle, its a bit more expensive than the 700P but you're paying for the finish. i paid 1200 plus tax, wanted to buy it before the prices went up (great excuse i know). it shoots extremely well. trigger is crisp from the factory. all in all, i love mine.

I have one and really like it. I got mine for 1125 earlier on this year. Like someone else said you're paying for the black TriNyte finish on the action and barrel....which by the way is one of the nicest finishes I've seen on a factory rifle. I compared the XCR to the 700P side by side and I liked the feel of the Bell and Carlson stock vs. the HS on the Police model. Your getting a factory rifle so your accuracy results will be just as good as any other factory rifle regardless of manufacturer.

i have both the XCR, and the R5. personally i like the XCR stock way way better. i like the finish on the XCR better aswell.
