In my approaching middle age, I've decided that my .300 Win Mag is not the last rifle I'd like to buy. In order to add one more weapon to my gun cabinet, thus filling it up, I want to get a .375 H&H Magnum. The XCR interests me due to its open sights (in this calibre) and weatherproof qualities (read alpine Alberta in fall or winter) and I quite like my .300 BDL, so I'm thinking that the .375's recoil in a rifle of equal weight (8 Lb.) will be considerable but not disastrous. I've never fired one, and certainly will do so before ordering the rifle, but I'd like to hear your shooting impressions of this calibre. If a nice used Winchester Model 70 came along, I'd probably jump at that since I don't have one.

There a nice Sako on the EE right now with a scope and other goodies. Not bad price. :)

Buy a 375Magnum, load for it with some reduced loads and work up. You love it.

the H&H is certainly not unshootable by any means

put things in your favor by putting a good recoil pad on it, and selecting a scope with good eye relief. if you handload, you can start lower and work your way up until you're comfortable with the recoil.

the XCR should be a fine platform, especially considering the fact you're already comfortable and pleased with Remington 700s
