My dad is wondering how the remington 700 is? The newer ones are probably are probably not as good as Remingtons QC went down? What would be the best ones to buy, he doesn't like tupperware stocks. ;)

I bought a brand new one last year from RDSC and it's fantastic. No issues and no complaints. I'm sure you'll find a mixed reaction though since it's the internet.

There are a couple in the EE right now.
Pre 2000 model years and wood stock too.
From 300 Savage to 7mm Remington Mag/
Thats where I would start looking and then to some of the site sponsors like Relaible and there interactive web store.
Good Hunting,
Rob

I have owned and used several dozen M700 rifles over the years.
I have also built a dozen or so custom rifles on the 700 action.
Even the newer ones have treated me well, although fit and finish
are not as good as those built earlier on.

There is a fair bit of negative posting on here, but a lot of that
is repeating what a small, but vocal, minority have posted.

The "Walker" trigger was involved in some controversy, but again,
proper gun handling would prevented any injury or fatality.
Most trigger issues were because of improper adjustment or the
accumulation of dirt and lubricants in the trigger assembly.

Buy a wood stocked 700 in the chambering of your choice, and
enjoy!! Dave.

I bought a Remington 700 BDL (30-06) last year and just before Remington went bankrupt.

Fit and finish is excellent .... and I am picky.

I believe the BDLs were getting a bit more attention from Remington and with respect to fit and finish.

However, first thing I did when I got the rifle, ... I switched out the trigger for a 2 stage TriggerTech trigger.

That’s a beauty!

I was a die hard model 700 fan for decades, up until around 2008? 2010?, when I got two bad ones in a row.
One was a 700 police heavy barrel 308, and the next one was an LVSF in 22-250. Both were supposed to be Remingtons version of a precision rifle. Mine were both 2 to 3 inch rifles at 100 yards, with various weights and brands of factory ammo. Both went back to where I bought them, which was wholesale sports. They told me that they had over 50 other complaints, two of which were my friends rifles....
I would not hesitate to buy an older model 700. Of the 10 or so I had over the years, all were excellent quality and very accurate.

I own exactly one Rem 700. It has served me faithfully for over 35 years. I'll not sell it & probably never own 10 or more of any one kind of rifle.

My first rifle purchase was a 700 mountain rifle, its a pencil barrelled 700, the first group out of it produced a .751" group, really happy with it ever since carried it every year in the woods for ground hogs to moose and everything in between in Ontario, I've purchased 2 more since, newer SPS Tacs and both are shooters, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another, although I find my Tikka T3's right on par with them,

Mixed feelings here, I had two 870 Express shotguns that were so cheaply finished they should have just sold them rust-colored from the factory.

But my 700 I currently own (SPS Tactical 223) is a great shooter. Despite a similar finish, not a spec of rust. Bolt smooth, lock up is solid, extraction and ejection is great, the trigger is kinda sh!t but adjusted to okayish level after some tweaking, and it shoots great. So basically, aside from a finicky Mountain Rifle which was just whippier than I'd like, it's the same as every other Remington M700 I've had before.

If the new ones are anything like that one, we'll be happy campers for sure. I suspect they'll be priced similar to the T3X and probably offer the same overall value, and still be a great platform for custom guns.

The older M700 BDL's & CDL's have the Walker Style Trigger, good solid rifles.
The newer M700 BDL's & CDL's come with the X-Mark Pro Trigger, also good rifles, easy trigger upgrade if needed.
