Don't have one in .300 Win Mag, but I just got one in .308 from HWMNBN (PM me for details) with a bedding, floating and trigger job (amazing trigger) done for $1195. I haven't even shot this thing yet (no scope yet) and I'm already in love with it.

300 win short

I actually have one which is in stainless steel barrel. Have not fired the thing as I bought this a month ago. It is in 300 Winchester Short Action Ultra Magnum. I bought the ammo and it is just a mean cartridge and bullet.

Are you interested in buying one?

I believe the 700P is the best value in a precision rifle. With a little " tweaking" they shoot extremely well, better in fact people than most can shoot. I have several in my collection in various calibers. With good loads all will shoot well under 1/2 moa as long as I do my part.
HS did their homework as that stock fits most bodies quite well.
I seriously doubt you will be disappointed.

I have a 700PSS in 300 RUM. It shoots very well but the barrel is a real ##### to clean... I have fire laped it twice but it still collects cooper in a BIG WAY!

I just bought a 700p LTR in .308 three days ago. I topped it with a 4200 Elite 6-24x40 and leupold rings and bases.

All I can say is WOW!! I had her doing 1/2 MOA out at 200 metres (range's last berm). This is my first precision rifle paired with a decent glass, and I couldn't be happier.

I decided to go with .308 because I find 300 wm has a little too much recoil for me to shoot comfortably all day, and I wouldn't want to create a flinch.

jwk, i would recommend you install a mussle brake if this is your first big caliber rifle, or you risk developing a flinch, wich will suck and take a good amount of shooting to get rid of. Great rifle by the way, i have one in .308 and love it.

I own a .300 Win Mag rem. 700 PSS & must say I prefer my .308 LTR for every thing closer then 500 meters. I was one of those few people that just did not like the HS stock. It was replaced with a AICS 1.5; now the HS collects dust in the basement. I liked the LTR stock from the get go and only added a Rooster33 adjustable cheek piece. I also recommend the Rooster33 adj. cheek piece for the HS PSS stock; I have one installed on the dust collector. The triggers are a “must tune” necessity with theses rifles. Sounds like you already have some excellent additions with the bolt knob and scope choice. You will love the ability to reach out and touch a target that the .300 Win. Mag. grants a shooter. However, the recoil is not worth it unless you are going the distance in my opinion. Make sure however you buy from stands behind the sale, as some of Remington’s rifles have some very poor quality control issues. Keep us posted on your muzzle break choice, as I have as well been considering a break. My finalists are a muzzle brake from TMWSNBN from Calgary, Alberta or a Near brake. So far I'm leaning towards Richard Near sako style brake installed by TMWSNBN.

My Sendero and a PICTURE!!!

I have had this .300WM for a few years now and now that I have the homeloads down I am most impressed!! (I went to buy a P but got a better deal instead)

Have had the barrel crowned and the trigger redone to 2lbs. Also have my torques figured out for the stock and shoot awesome groups (my opinion) consistantly.

I am considering a muzzle break as the rifle jumps quite high when fired and I'm getting to like the idea of being able to watch the bullet hit the target. I'm a recoil junkie so I'm not much bothered by this.

Am still playing with the versa-pod and it's looking like a harris is going to take it's place.

I'm a big guy so I really like the Choate stock. Lots of mixed opinions on this stock but if your my size it works great. The one small b1tch is you have to remove the cheek piece to be able to remove the bolt. I switched out the screw in favor of a sunken allan head bolt and put a nut on the bottom.

To me the 7mm and the .300WM shoot pretty much the same (again my opinion) so either would be a good way to go in my eyes. I reload 4 other rifles with .30 cal bullets so that is why I went with the .300.

Hope this helps!!!

My brother just picked up a 700p tws package (.308) about a month ago. I never shot it but did handle it. Seemed like a very nice rifle. Great trigger, smooth action decent length of pull. My only complaint was the distance from the pistol grip to the trigger. I like the palm swell but when placed properly into the palm of the hand the trigger was was almost up to my knuckle!! There was no way I could use the tip of my finger to pull the trigger and still have the palm of my hand on the pistol grip. If you plan on replacing the stock no problems then.

The HS stocks are solid fiberglass in the pistol grip area and can be recontoured to fit the hand with some sanding to get a better fit.

Since you don't like that stock of yours, and it's just going to waste in the basement...why not give it to me:D (or sell it, if you're so inclined...)?
