Here are a few pictures of my new Remington 700P, it arrived this morning. Not trying to detract from andygumpers's post from a few days back... his is a different caliber and I didn't want to hijack by posting mine there :D. This one is chambered for 6.8mm Remington SPC, that being the reason I bought the rifle. Uhh... that and the price ;). Rings & mount are en-route, I already have some decent glass to put on it, but nothing too fancy. I opted for a 13"-23" Harris bipod, I plan to use it primarily from a sitting position.

My first impressions are mixed, I'll need some time & effort to appreciate this rifle. This doesn't surprise me as I bought it having never seen nor handled one outside of the internets.

Some items need replacing... the trigger guard assembly & magazine floor plate gross me out. They are made of cheesy plastic <edit: oops, it's aluminum> and seem fragile. Are these a standard BDL part, or are they an HS item? I will need to look at HS Precision's website for an option... I believe they offer a detachable magazine kit that will, if nothing else, eliminate the floor plate. Speaking of HS Precision, this is my first experience with their stocks. The material is bizarre to say the least, it reminds me of rock candy. I am used to walnut or standard black/green plastic stocks, this one odd for me.

The metal finish is excellent, the overall styling is spartan but classy. The action and trigger seem reasonably smooth, obviously time will tell if they break in. The heavy barrel is strangely fluted, it isn't likely much weight is saved. There are three wide, shallow channels, one is pictured below. It is fully free-floated, I did the paper thing :p.

Generally speaking I'd say it will end up being a good rifle, after some initial adjustments. Pictures will be added as it evolves. I will post a proper range report after I secure some cartridges, it shouldn't take too long. Does anyone shooting 6.8mm SPC's out there have any advice or comments? Any other advice or comments are welcome, cheers.

From that pic it looks like you got one of the older remington triggers? Does the trigger have little grooves in it? (I like the older ones better).
I don't think the trigger guard would be plastic, but perhaps aluminum, coated with a plasticy finish...
If you're eyeing a detachable mag kit to replace it, I'd go with Vbull's kit (link at the top of the forum). My 2c...

I noticed this rifle was on special at a couple of sporting good stores. Curious to see how she shoots. I’ll keep checking your thread to see on the report. Have fun shooting...

Yes it's the grooved trigger, seems pretty good upon initial dry-fire.

Huh, you're right, it is aluminum - the teeth never lie. Well, that's the damned plasticiest aluminum I ever did see :D. I am happy provided it isn't brittle, thanks for the positive development.

the trigger assembly/floorplate stands up to standard abuse just fine, i have the same type/style on at least 8 of my rifles and have never had an issue..
the flutes look the same as those on the LTR model rifles...
