remington 721????

I was just given another rifle from a family member, a Remington 721 in 30-06, are these any good? they seem to be a well made rifle.

It's the precursor to the 700. Perfectly fine.

Basically the same as a 700, just a lot plainer.

The barrels I have found are a pain to clean, however they are solid rifles and shoot well.

Have a 722 (short action version) in 300 Savage

Very similar to the 700. Different bolt handle which I actually think is nicer than the knurled Remington 700 knob and a bit of a different bolt shroud. Should take Remington 700 scope mounts. I think they are quite nice but I've only seen a few in person.

I have owned several of these over the years. Very decent rifles, and usually great shooters.
I rebarrelled one to 6.5 x 55AI for 1000 yard sporter class, and shot my Elk with it this year.

As has been noted, quite plain, but very functional. Keep the trigger clean!! Dave.

the more I handle this rifle the more I like it, almost like better than my blr, it would give me more range when hunting compared to my blr in 308, even though I shoot left handed the safety is real easy to use
