Remington 722 in .300 Savage

I have a M722 in .300 Savage and it is one of my favorite rifles. I reload so ammunition is not an issue. I also have two M722's in .308 and one in .222Rem. They might look plain but they all shoot very well. I wouldn't trade any of them for new, equivalent M700s. Hang onto yours, and when the time is right, hand it down to a younger shooter with the story of where it came from.

Thanks for all the advice guys, its much appreciated. It's cool the stories an old gun brings out.
Just finished stripping her down and doing a thorough cleaning. Blasted her throughout with G96. wiped down and blasted again. She cycles quite smoothly now, though she seems to be binding a little. However, much better than when i got it. There wasn't a lick of oil or lubricant to be found.
I've been doing what i can to repatriate my family's guns and bring them into a loving home. So far i'm 2 for 5 (as far as i know). My first gun being Geeg's Cooey Model 600 (which is 1945 spec, though i did replace the aged scope) which he got when he turned 18, and now the 722. Geeg still has 2 more floating out there, one uncle has a Winchester 30-30 and the other has a shotgun, possibly a Browning Auto 5. The last is a .22 that belongs to my gramma, who got it from her mother, who was one of the first children of the first settlers around Medicine Hat. Fun stuff :)

Sub question, does anyone have a line on some weaver pivot bases, specifically the 135 and 136? I would like to take advantage of the clip slot on the top of the 722 receiver.

Well, someone came up with the weaver bases, so i may as well ask another question. Does anyone have a line on some 5 round .308 stripper clips?
I'm thinking that combo of the pivot mounts and stripper clips will work very well in the cold weather wolf hunt we plan to do on reading week.

Every time I look at my Grampa's gun I refinished I shudder, every time.

Leave it be. And get some dies in 300 Savage. Soon you'll have the 308 on the EE anyway.

Well we'll have to see how the 722 shoots before i ever think of putting my 700 on EE. I've sunk a fairly sizable chunk of change into her, and she was the first gun solely owned by me. However, she vastly out-shoots me and my fairly low skill level... though i bet that can be readily fixed with some proper training. Only time shall tell :)
