Hoping for a Remington expert to set me straight. I have been dealing with some guns left by my dad a number of years ago and you guys have provided some great advice. I have questions about a Rem M-725 in 22-250. My research shows that the 725 was only made 58-62 or 63. Remington did not adopt the 22-250 until 65. The numbers don't add up. The gun is at the cottage so I can't look at it right now, not till may 24 when we usually open. It is bugging me a bit. The only info I can provide is the caliber barrel stamp looked funny to me so I fed some rounds through and that was all good. the hole in the muzzle looks like a 22 so I touched one off and all was well there too. Extracted well and the case looked good. I convinced myself it is a 22.250. That was last fall and I left it there, now my research is raising these questions.
My dad did not go in for altered guns much he was a big factory guy, liked them orig. with there place in history, he was all about that. This gun just does not fit in. He was a big Remington guy and would have known this problem for sure. I like the gun and decided to keep it based on the caliber and now am wondering about it. Does anyone know what 22 cal. the 725 would have come in, that could have been rechambered. I understand there werent that many in 1959, 22 hornet, 22 swift. Swift to 250 seems impossible, hornet to 250 possible but would require mag well alterations. or is it possible that a 725 serial # 712500 could have cone in 22-250.
please feel free to ask me questions if I can give any more info. I will end The speculation in around 6 weeks. when I can post up some pics.
update 1959 catalog shows 222 rem. at least that fits.
Cheers Seve
