Remington 740/742 question

I was wondering if the barrel from a Remington 740 would work in a 742 or are the connections etc. too different?

Depends on the vintage of 740. Both used an interrupted thread style lockup. Early 740's were mechanically different enough where it might cause an issue. Check headspace regardless.
