I have a remington 7400 in 30-06 that originally had synthetic stocks. In the spring I ordered laminate stocks and forend from Boyds.I hadn't shot it till today, getting her ready to go for the deer hunt and after 8 shots the forend split in half.I talked to Boyds and they have quit making them (I can see why) and will refund my money but will not take the butstock back since I drilled a hole for the sling swizel stud.I also had to order a shorter butstock bolt and spacer for it so even getting the money for the forend I am still out $200 (with all the shipping costs).I know I can glue it back together but figure it will split again. Is there any way to reinforce it so it won't happen again.

If it's not too much trouble, try posting a pic of the damage. Depending on how much "meat" there is where the split is your type of fix may vary. Just as an example I've seen a number of redneck fixes on Browning A5 forearms (notorious splitters) that employed the use of part of a coke can that had been drilled almost to oblivion and epoxied.

Wife's camera just quit so can't take a pic.It split over the screw hole than under about half way back, than from the back up and there is about 2“ of wood holding it together. At the end over the screw hole with micrometer it measures .140 and against receiver is. 320.

Glue is your friend... it appears they were a little weak at the factory when it was laminated... wood glue and lightly clamp it together. Don't over tighten and squeeze all the glue out... the worst thing that will happen is it may fail again...

Thanks alot everybody for the replies, hopefully get to town tomorrow and pick up the glue and fiberglass.I put the tupperware stocks back on and finished my sight in so at least she's ready for deer season.

I have figured out a few problems with the forend now and and hopeing for some more of everyone's ideas.I found in the back that it wasn't cut out quite right and used the dremmel and got that fixed but where it bolts on the hole is. 050 too big and also there is about. 025 of space in between where it bolts to the block, so there is too much play. For the gap not sure if washers would work? As for the over sized hole thinking wood filler and sand it (not sure if it's strong enough).Any input would be great as I have never screwed around with this type of stuff before and am kind of at a loss.
